Jul. 16th, 2021 03:04 amThe day in town by myself. I sometimes like just doing things myself and feeling in charge of the day.
A little boutique that just barely got started before Covid survived, and is open regular hours again. It's a consignment store that has fairly nice clothing, but is still affordable for me. I found a great skirt and a very nice shirt. This is a store too, that I was thinking about taking some clothes to sell before Covid hit. I might yet do this.
I bought some Yupo paper and watercolor inks to experiment with. A woman at the Art Walk in the city used Yupo paper for her work, and it makes a very interesting look. Yupo is basically plastic, so it doesn't absorb the paint, it pools and runs. I'm sure it's hard to control. You can do a lot of lifting paint for details because it doesn't soak in.
Then I got groceries. A ton of groceries. It's hard to get my sweetie to buy enough food. When he shops for us, he only buys what we are already out of, he doesn't buy for everything we'll be out of in a few days. Then what happens is we run out of everything, but we can't get to town to shop, so we end up with hardly anything to eat for our normal food. I buy food for the WEEK, and a little more. He shops like we're going to be in town again in two days. Sometimes we ARE in town again, but we need to buy lumber or whatever, not groceries. I think if it were him shopping all the time, we'd have four things to eat. What's weird, is that when he's away from home and cooking, he's always talking about what he cooks for the guys, and manages to do all the planning. He seems to make a big deal out of cooking for the guys (he often shares a house or apartment with other guys on the same job). Then again, from the sounds of it he also shops for food three times a week when he's away from home.
My husband goes to town a lot because he isn't always good at grouping tasks. He'll go to town for one thing. Then he'll go again for another thing. Two days later he's there again. It's not very efficient.
We watched "The Cotton Club", a movie from the '80's with Richard Gere and Diane Lane. A great movie about a cabaret with "colored" performers in the '20's. Lots of singing and tap dancing. Gangsters.
