Today I am grateful for:

Finally some rain and a cooler day. It has been a very hot, dry August around here!

I was able to submit my recent video to the online show platform. I had tried to do last night (there is a window of two days for submissions), but something was wrong with the site, and I couldn't find the show on the site. I had already paid and registered for the show, but you can do that first, then submit your video. Anyhow, I was very upset, as this is the same association that disqualified me for the shirt last time. I thought "If these guys just take my money and then screw things up and I can't submit my video, I am DONE with these clowns".

I ended up e-mailing the association, and they contacted me and said to try it again, that there was something going on with the site.

I did manage to get it to accept my video, and I hope it all went well.

Then, R from the barn frantically texts me, and she's having the same issues, and she's all freaking out because she is the LEADER here, and she's got all these people at the barn trying to submit videos, and she thinks maybe she screwed up and gave everyone the wrong date for the show...

I told her that I got mine uploaded, but only after a few tries, etc.

I don't know if she got hers to work or not. I hope so.

My Sweetie gave the contractor the day off, and I was able to sleep. I still feel like I could use a lot more of it, but this is a start.

My Sweetie did a bit of work on the wiring and took a load of garbage (generated from the contractors) to the dump before I got up.

We went into the city today to buy more stuff for the house that required mutual decision making.

We needed to buy a bath/shower set for the basement, mainly. After checking in a few places, we settled on a nice set that should look pretty good.

We were also looking at some entry way doors in person, to see how they looked in real life, not just online. There was one we both liked, and we'll consider it.

We picked up some door knobs for the doors downstairs, and some lights for the bathroom.

I get a little overwhelmed when we go on a big push like what we've been doing, because it is a lot of money to spend in a short period of time. I remind myself that we have the money set aside, that it is all planned, and it's okay. We are keeping track of what we are spending and what is in the account for these costs.

It is also kind of surreal, how many times we have done these days of going to the home depot type stores, and shopped for sinks, toilets, faucets, linoleum, all kinds of things. Over and over and over again from one house to another.

It is possible that at least once a month on average over the whole time I have been with my husband, we do a trip looking for things in three different stores. Appliances. Light fixtures. Materials like drywall and electrical cord, light switch covers and baseboard. Some years we go every time he is home for at least something.

After a while it is so surreal, because we're doing a whole house reno for the second time and I'm getting deja vu. It feels exactly the same as the first house we bought when we were first together, and spent seven years working on it.

I got a short trip to Sephora, and while I found some eyeshadow, they weren't doing a great job. The perfume I wanted was unavailable in the 10ml size, the other perfume I wanted to try had no tester. Another one the tester was empty. Then the lineup for the checkout was very long and not moving, and I had to ask someone if they could open some of the other tills. There was a single, grim-looking security guard being very obvious and wearing a protective vest, and I was like "Seriously? How bad do things get in this store to have THIS guy walking around like he's expecting a riot?".

Then we had a nice meal at a chain restaurant that has good, tasty food that works for me. The kind you go up to the front to order and go sit down to wait for it. What was funny, is that it was taking me a minute to think about what I wanted, and the girl taking my order was all trying to rush me. I looked around, and there was NO ONE ELSE THERE, so I told her to settle down and give me a moment. Really, it was only taking me a moment, I wasn't really holding anyone up. Maybe she had a ton of prep work to do in the back or something.

Then we came home, and watched more "Picard", which is much faster-paced than I was expecting, since Picard is like, 75 years old or something. There's a lot going on.

I learned that during a preview of the Sistine Chapel paintings, one of the Pope's men criticized all the "disgraceful" nudity. So Michaelangelo painted the critic's likeness into the Last Judgement, wearing nothing but a snake that's biting his dick.

"It was widely said that when Biagio complained to Pope Paul III, the pontiff joked that his jurisdiction did not extend to hell and the portrait would have to remain.[2]" (The part of the painting with Biago in it was about judgment in Hell).
