Today I am grateful for:

Nice weather. Not too hot.

Some good sleep again, but I feel like I never get enough.

I talked with Trainwreck for a while, and she sounded okay. She is planning to come to Mom's service with one of her sons.

I did some things that needed doing; made quinoa for later, filled the cat water tower, did laundry, got some frozen cat food organized.

Then I did chores.

I spent most of the day after that planting the garden, frantically. If we are to have a garden this year, it HAS to be done before I leave again.

I did get it planted, whew.

Then I went to see River. His breathing was good, and though pokey, he was pretty responsive to cues.

Overall it was a good session.

My Sweetie dropped in at the barn on his way home from work, and stayed until we were done. That was nice.

Then, when we got home, we let everyone out into their bigger pastures, and put water on the newly planted garden.

It's been bone dry around here this spring, so I let the water run for two hours, and I might water it again tomorrow.


So, another pretty busy, fairly tiring day of trying hard to catch up on things, and get them in a good place for me to go away again for several days.

What do you do with quinoa to make it a meal? Is it tasty?

I just use it like rice in meals. It works well as a base for stir fry, I add it to "vegetarian chili", it would work in soup.

I used it to make a cold salad, so there are beans and assorted finely chopped veggies in there, with a bit of lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, a bit of salt and pepper.

There are a lot of traditional recipes out there that use it.

I like the taste, it's pretty neutral. Some people aren't into the texture, as it is a bit firmer than rice. It can be annoying to get the last bits of it.

I looked up a recipe for sweet potato and spinach quinoa balls. They might be nice with different (Asian, Indian, Moroccan, etc.) seasonings, baked up and eaten with hummus and roasted shredded vegetables.

I'm going to experiment with these when the sous chef is away on a two-week holiday. I will need plenty of distraction to prevent worry.

I bought a dill pickle-flavoured President's Choice hummus a couple of days ago. It is exceptionally nice!

I don't know that I've seen that flavor here. I'll have to look.

Dill pickle and beet hummus are my current favourites.

Where is he headed?

He is going to Prague, then Vienna, then areas around there - Salzburg, perhaps. Bratislava? Budapest?

I will be travelling vicariously again if we have What's App coffees and dinners.
