Mar. 16th, 2019 01:48 amA lazy approach to the day. My sweetie got a good, long sleep-in, and time to just muck around on the computer before I got up.
Beautiful warm weather and sunshine, such a joy to be outside on a day like this.
My sweetie helped me trim our big nanny goat's hooves. I used to just kind of pin her down to do them, but she's old and fat and I don't want to hurt her. My sweetie held her still so she could stand, and that works just fine. Her hooves got kind of distorted over the course of the winter, and it will take a few trimmings to get them sorted out. I'm grateful for his help, as it made this so much less stressful for Nanny.
A good ride on River, and some supportive talk with another rider about ignoring the barn owner's talk (the barn owner says River might be a little fat now, I think he still has to put on a bit of weight. I think the barn owner is just trying to minimize how awful this hay truly was, and how dangerously thin so many of the horses were.). We're both working to keep our horses in good shape, after a shitty winter of low quality hay. I'm grateful to have such good support from people at the barn.
River felt good, lots of energy and willingness. We had the arena to ourselves, which is good from time to time, so he doesn't depend on having other horses there. I do always ride with other people around, for safety. I'm grateful that my husband likes to come with me to the barn, and that I could ride today.
The girl with the giant warmblood was there, and we stayed around so that she wasn't riding alone. I know she does sometimes, but she probably shouldn't. She's still pretty nervous with this horse, he's still very green. I think having us stay with her in the arena helped her. I'm grateful to be able to offer her some assurance.
Then, my sweetie and I went for supper in town, at a nice place we eat at from time to time. We did used to eat there a lot, but got a little burned out, because only a few things on the menu are vegetarian so we eat the same thing most of the time. I am grateful to have such a nice place to eat, where the owner comes to talk to us and see how we're doing.
Then, we had some quiet time at home, just hanging out in the living room.
