Jul. 15th, 2020 01:21 amSunshine today. Full blown sunshine, with no rain.
Getting a bit of sleep last night. I actually resorted to sleeping on an exercise mat in our unfinished basement, in the middle of all the stuff laying around from people working on our heating system, and I had to crawl down a ladder through the window to get in, because there are no stairs into the basement, and it's not connected to the house above in any way. If we had a proper room down there by now, like we were supposed to, this wouldn't seem so weird. As it is, it feels REALLY unhappy that I have to do this. Like I've been banished to my hole. I did sleep there, and I really needed it, but why does my life end up being so strange? I'm probably sleeping there again, because my whole world felt better for having had even five hours of proper sleep.
A good riding lesson on River. We reinforced what I learned from the visiting coach last week, and really focused on the quality of collection at the trot.
There were a lot of people at the barn today, and I feel that no one was really maintaining social distancing. I feel like we're being too casual now. We still have to have one empty tie stall between two people, and maybe we weren't really standing that close, but I guess my sense of personal space has changed. It was really nice to visit with everyone.
Wonder's breathing seems better today, and I'm so relieved. She had really bad heaves, and I feel guilty that we didn't get a vet out immediately (I really wasn't sure if it warranted an "emergency" call). She is breathing fairly normally now, hopefully that's all we have to do. I'm treating her with a course of drugs for opening her airways and reducing inflammation, similar to asthma, as well as washing her hay to cut the dust down.
Spending an hour or so in the garden, pulling grass and weeds. The veggies are coming along well, and I'm glad they aren't drowned or rotted with all the rain we've had. I haven't been able to even pull weeds this last week because it was soaking wet or actively thunder-storming most of the time.
