Today I am grateful for:

Cleaning today for the family. It's kind of funny, G texted me to give me a head's up that the house was kind of a mess, I don't know if he was worried I wouldn't want to come clean? I told him I'd be okay. As it turns out, the place really wasn't that bad. The kitchen had a bunch of dishes, that's about it.

G is a pretty nice guy. We usually chat a bit after I finish up. He talks a lot about hunting, and meat, and...meat...and hunting. I generally just go along with the conversation. Today he offered me some deer meat, which is actually very flattering, but I declined with gratitude as I am a vegetarian. I think he was pretty surprised about that, as I don't make a point of talking about that with most people, and because we've talked about what it's like growing up on farms. The funniest part is that pretty much right after I mentioned that I'm a vegetarian, he went right back to talking about hunting and meat. It really is his passion.

I also think it's a weird phenomenon, that many people really do just like to talk about meat and slaughtering processes, and reminisce about killings past, and meat, various meats they have eaten, and me not being interested seems to be no barrier.

Another observation, is that many hunters and farmers are also keen observers of animals, and in their behavior and individuals, and sometimes I think that caring about animals like I do is sort of an evolution of the relationship that hunters and farmers have in them.

He is also kind of a Covid denier, but he's not a jerk about it. Like many, he thinks he's just being level-headed and not "over-reacting". He's sort of just in a state of disbelief that there's this much hype about "the flu", without seeming to understand that there have been pandemics of the flu before that killed millions of people. The flu is not always just a rough week of recovery. He seems to think that a lot of the deaths by Covid are not "really from Covid", because those were old people, or sick people. Sure, SOME of the deaths were really Covid deaths, but a lot of them aren't REALLY from Covid, etc. and so on. I wear a mask while I clean for them, and I do disagree with his opinions, and I say so. I guess this is just his way of trying to cope with a very frustrating and scary situation; by pretending that it isn't really happening? Nonetheless, his approach to the situation is dangerous, because he's likely not being as careful as he should be.

My sweetie was home today, and from what I understand he had a quiet day, which is nice. He doesn't get many of those.

We watched "Dragnet" with Dan Akroyd and Tom Hanks, and marvelled again at the horrible sexism of older movies, and how Tom Hanks evolved from a goofy comedy guy to a sort of "pillar of the community" dramatic powerhouse.
