Sep. 23rd, 2020 04:38 amAnother beautiful, sunny day. This stretch of nice days is the best weather we've had all year.
My sweetie and I decided to just take River straight to the riding facility I found a few days ago. The owner was home, we had time, and it was just a good moment to do it, and get it over with.
There were lots of people around at the current barn, so I was able to have a quick chat with one or two of my barn friends and let them know I was leaving (I could have texted them too, I suppose). I continued with my plan of "no drama" for my exit, and to leave bridges unburned. There were no words of ill-will spoken to anyone about the situation, just the honest truth that I had to move River for his health.
River wasn't too bad about loading this time. It still took a while, but he didn't seem panicked or scared, just stubborn.
The drive to the new barn was uncomplicated, just the way I like it.
River got off the trailer at the new place, and barely got off the trailer before he was grazing happily. He seemed a tiny bit concerned for a moment that he was in a strange place, and that passed pretty quickly once he realized that his quarantine corral had nice grass in it.
We met some of the other boarders, we looked around a bit with the owner (my sweetie hadn't seen it yet), and left with a view of River grazing as we pulled away.
Came home and didn't really do anything else.
I finished a book I really enjoyed called "The Wanderers" by Meg Howrey. It's about three engineers chosen to train for a mission to Mars. Their training involves a prolonged simulation that approximates what it's going to be like to live in a space vehicle then living pod, carrying out the daily routines that would be expected of them on a mission. It's mostly about whether they can mentally handle the combination of living closely in confined quarters together while being isolated from their loved ones. The book is mostly about what goes on in the minds of the potential explorers, and in the minds of their loved ones. It's really good.
