Oct. 30th, 2021 02:08 amToday I am grateful for:
Well, this part isn't really gratitude. I had a lot of frustration surrounding trying to pick up the little car from the mechanic.
First, I was going to take our old X-terra to pick up the little car, and leave it there (my husband and I could get it later) because I likely wouldn't need it in the next week. I had some stuff in it that I didn't want to leave at the mechanic's, so I pulled it all out and put it the the truck. Then it wouldn't start. It kind of has a crappy battery that apparently died (although this does happen if you don't drive a vehicle enough to keep it charged).
So, I had to pull all the crap back out of the truck and put it back into the X-terra. I didn't really want to leave the truck at the mechanic's, because I often do use the truck.
Anyhow, so I get to the mechanic's, we had a chat and I paid him. We went out to the Juke, and lo and behold one of the winter tires that he just put on was flat. I haven't had the use of it for all this week, and now I guess it will be another day or so, because he'll have to pull the tire off and look for why it went flat.
So I just drove home again in the truck.
This shouldn't have been a big deal, but once again it was something that should have been straight forward that was complicated for different reasons, and ended with me not achieving my objective.
Anyhow, I tried not to let it ruin my day.
I spent some time with the ponies and goats out in their grassy pasture.
I did some vacuuming. I can never get over how gross our one rug gets. Mainly it's full of the sawdust particles from the cat litter (I use wood pellets) and just hair.
I went to see River, and there was another rider there. She's one of the few people I see other than R and the kid I've been taking lessons with, because she comes in the evening after work. She had both of her horses in the barn, so I helped her take them back to the corral since leading two horses sucks.
River did really well tonight. We did a lot of work at liberty, and I am really amazed at how much he is willing now to stay with me. I've been working more to do different things with him in the arena to keep him interested and engaged, so we did some of the obstacles that were set up at liberty. Then we rode, and I used the tools R wanted me to try to help with my seat.
What helps is that his breathing and energy level are much better with the cooler weather and the less dusty air.
There was some kind of emergency somewhere to the West of the barn, because as I was working with River several emergency vehicles went by, and it was all sirens and everyone's dogs barking for quite some time. I always feel terrible to see emergency vehicles, because you know someone is experiencing a likely life-threatening situation. I guess at least those vehicles were on their way to try to make things better if possible.
Then I came home, and spent quite a bit of time upstairs looking for things again. I did find one of the things I was looking for; a cheap watercolor palette that is meant to be portable.
