Nov. 1st, 2021 03:34 amHappy Halloween!
Today I am grateful for:
Another warm (for here in October), sunny day.
I asked R if I could come ride early today, and she said yes. We have a riding schedule because of Covid, so that the barn doesn't get crowded. When my husband was working nights last winter, I asked for evening riding times since he left for work at 5 pm. Most of my times are 7 and 8 pm, which means it's now in the dark, and often alone.
I talked to her today about the possibility of coming earlier in the day, hopefully during daylight so that in the winter I can enjoy what little light we have (even though I can ride in the arena with lights). She's going to look at the schedule and see what's available. I don't want to inconvenience her, but I do know that one rider/horse left, and there might be some earlier times available now.
I rode outside today since it was so nice, and overlapped with another rider. River's breathing wasn't great, and I have no idea why. It's been so good lately with the cooler weather and cleaner air after the rain a while ago. Anyhow, we did a lot of liberty work, and he stayed with me even though we were outside. We rode a bit, and then the yahoo neighbor apparently needed to fire off a few rounds (or at least it sounded like guns). River was jumpy about that, so I worked with him on the ground again. I was kind of leery about riding more, since I had no idea whether or not the shooting was over, but I rode just to cool him out and called it a day.
It was super nice to ride while there was still lots of light.
I didn't have my little car back today. As much as I like our mechanic, it's getting a little silly that my car has been at his place for an entire week now, just to get the tires changed.
I came home from the barn and had a nice nap, then I watched some Breaking Bad.
Saturday:
A quiet day at home, and instead of feeling bored or trapped I just felt content to be at home.
I did all kinds of little but important jobs. I cleaned out the water bucket for the ponies/goats. I brought a bag of senior feed out for our old girl. I picked up stuff in the yard again and put it away. I picked manure from the goat/pony pen and took it over to the compost heap (I do this most days, otherwise their pen would be disgusting).
I tried sketching outside today, but it was a hair too cold for my fingers. I did enjoy just sitting with the goats/ponies.
I painted a Halloween themed picture, and watched more Breaking Bad.
