Jan. 20th, 2022 02:36 amToday I am grateful for:
That it was not as cold as last night, today. It was around -20 today, yesterday same time about -25 and it went down to -30 last night. It is supposed to be warming up through the night and warmer tomorrow.
I put the goats back outside, and they seem okay at this temperature, and they usually are okay with -20C. If they seem cold later they can still go back into the garage.
R and I talked yesterday, and decided that we would still do a lesson today if it was around -20C. So we did.
We did all ground work and liberty, no riding since it was still very cold. River did really well, I figured out FINALLY what was meant by an exercise I have been struggling with. We found a couple of smaller points to refine in our Liberty work at this stage. Then we went into the barn where it is warmer, and did a body evaluation on River, and R is really happy with how much looser his body is than the last time we evaluated him. Overall he is really developing top line muscle and is much less tight/sore. We went through some more stretching exercises I can do with River now that he is in better condition and ready for them.
I came home and watched "Me Before You", a kind of sad love story. An aide falls in love with her partly paralyzed client, and I won't give away the rest.
I worked on a scarf I started knitting last winter.
Tuesday: Quite cold today, but I got all the blankets on everyone okay, and the goats in the garage. Lots of extra work when it gets this cold, but you just keep ticking off what needs to happen until the list is done.
I still went to go see River, just to do groundwork and liberty. It was good just to get out of the house and do something. River did well, and stayed focused. It was cold enough that I didn't take his blanket off, just worked with it on.
R was there for a while, and it was nice just to talk to someone.
I came home, and watched a few episodes of "Vikings", and while parts of it are interesting, I have to say the two or three rapes that seem obligatory in every episode are off-putting.
I worked on finishing up a scarf that literally just needed the last row finished, and mended two spots where there was moth damage. I also mended a sweater. I had found the damage a few weeks or so ago, and put everything I found outside in the -30 weather to hopefully kill the eggs.
I keep checking the wool items that I have stored in rubbermaid type storage bins, so far I only saw damage in the one sweater, a wrap, and in some yarn that was out in the open. I can't believe how persistent these moths are.
I also finished a necklace that I've been working on, on and off for quite some time. It involves knotting, so it took a while.
Things I have learned: I didn't realize that Vikings raided England.
Finally, what R was teaching me about doing an exercise that is basically a half circle lunge. She calls it a direct and drive, and I kept thinking River should be kind of facing me the whole time, but that is a different exercise called a boomerang.
