Feb. 1st, 2022 01:20 amToday I am grateful for:
That the horrible weather predicted by the weather app wasn't so bad that I couldn't go to town today. There was a lot of wind earlier in the morning, and when that settled down it was colder than it has been, but manageable.
I went to town, and went to Winner's. I found a nice lighter jacket for Spring/Fall that is nylon. I have a lot of fleece type jackets and I love them, but they always look like crap because of pet hair. This jacket shouldn't collect hair.
I went to pottery, and enjoyed that. I am feeling fairly settled there now. I only threw one vase, because the clay was a little too soft for tall work, and kept collapsing. The other women there got into heated debates again about mostly education system stuff. The women in this class are all either retired health care workers or retired teachers, so they often get all riled up about stuff. I'm glad they have this outlet. If I had to guess, they have many outlets. Like, every time they talk to someone outlets.
I came home by the highway, and it was better (less snow drifts) than the gravel roads I usually take.
I spent some time in my clothing room, trying things on and making outfits. I feel like I own clothes for a different person. A person who lives in a warmer climate near the beach who takes a lot of walks on the boardwalk and has lunches at sidewalk cafes, and spends the evening at an outdoor music festival. I love these clothes, and I almost never get to wear them.
Today I learned that the way that keyboards are set up now, is a throwback to mechanical typewriters (of course). The keys used to be arranged alphabetically, but that arrangement led to certain keys being jammed a lot. Arranging them as they are now spreads out the most commonly used letters, and thus less jamming. Apparently some people have come up with more efficient modern layouts since we aren't using typewriters, but I can't imagine having to re-learn how to type.
Also, temples and palaces in Japan deliberately installed wood floors that would creak and chirp when walked upon as a security measure. They are called "Nightingale Floors". I have a book somewhere called "The Nightingale Floor", and I'm sure it is based on this concept.
