Feb. 5th, 2022 02:26 amToday I am grateful for:
Finally, the nicer weather we were supposed to get this week. Much nicer!
I went to see River. At first he was distracted, because there was a lot going on outside the arena and you can hear everything in there. I just patiently worked with him on the ground and he relaxed. We were just starting to ride when R came in with her daughter and the special needs rider who takes lessons on Fridays.
It was a bit like a circus in there for a while, because the girl having the lesson was playing with the giant balls, rolling them around. That gets a little dicey when you're trying to ride and there's a giant beach ball rolling towards your horse. River didn't spook, but he did look a bit.
Then we did that game again, where you pick the pole out of the pylon, and carry it to the barrel, and that was fun.
It was nice to be around people, doing something just for fun.
Then I watched a movie called ""The Whole Truth", and it was okay. The oddest part was seeing Renee Zellwiger, and her face is barely recognizable. I don't know if it's just normal aging or if she had some work done, but it just didn't even look like her.
Today I learned about Cragside, a magnificent Victorian home in Northumberland, designed by a Baron and inventor called William Armstrong. Besides being opulent, the home is remarkable because it was completely wired for electricity generated on the property by a series of dams. The house had a Turkish bath, an electric dish washer, an electric laundry, a saw mill, and so on.
I deliberately went to Wikipedia and searched for something interesting to read about; if you look, the site has categories you can search under for recommended entries.
