Today I am grateful for:

More nice weather. Things are getting sloppy outside. All the manure is melting at once.

I went to see River, and he was pretty mellow today. We did our groundwork, and by the time I was riding, the other special needs rider came in for her lesson.

She is unable to talk, and I don't know sign language, but she and I exchange a lot of thumbs up signs and high fives, and I make a point of looking at her nails because she often wears acrylic ones in bright colors.

I think she's pretty cool for coming to the barn, sometimes when it is pretty cold outside (the arena isn't heated) and riding. She doesn't control the horse when she rides, R leads it, but she does do ground work like lunging and the yields.

She was born with her esophagus not connected to her stomach, so she is fed via a port. This condition means she can't talk, she also has poor vision and is deaf. Yet, she often seems in a pretty decent mood and comes and grooms the pony she rides, and learns the ground work, and rides for a while.

I often see her on Fridays, and if the timing works, I stay in the arena and ride with her and usually we play the pole picking game. She picks the poles while R leads her pony. We cheer each other on.

R's teen aged daughter usually rides too. A lot of it is about having a fun, social time for this girl.

As part of the fun pole picking competition, R had a second category for "creative" pole picking. I arranged the pylons/poles into a square, with the barrel in the middle, and did kind of a clover leaf pattern. She videoed that for me.

I came home and watched a movie called "Stalker", which was supposed to be one of those "must see" movies. Like the top 100 best movies ever made kind of thing.

It was about a Stalker (in Russian, means someone who takes people to restricted area, or a smuggler, that kind of thing) who takes people into a restricted zone (in the movie, hinted at being Chernobyl area) to a special room where supposedly your heart's desire comes true.

The footage was fascinating, because it was filmed at an abandoned power plant, and an abandoned chemical plant (because of it's resemblance to Chernobyl?), so it was all debris and abandoned houses being reclaimed by nature. Apparently several people involved in this film may have died from the complications of residual chemicals in the water and air, some quickly, others not right away, but years later.

Of course, the whole thing was kind of boring, and them walking around and getting scared about the whole thing, and wondering if anyone is really a good enough person to have their wishes granted, since human beings can wish for some pretty awful things.

There was a little hint about the Stalker playing God, and maybe sending people he didn't think were good people into places that were dangerous; not everyone made it out alive. The other theme being was this room even real, or was it just about having faith?

I recognize that the incredibly long, boring pacing where nothing really happened was meant to hypnotize you and really take you into their own journey, but it was really boring.

It's one of those ambiguous films that you are just supposed to sit there and think deep thoughts.

Today I learned that Jimi Hendrix and Neal Young had to steal a truck to get from the airport to Woodstock.
