Clearing.

It may sound like I am upset about our house a lot because of the slow progress, but I love the house itself.

It has fir floors and wood around the doors, and the original windows (I am freaking out a little inside about modernizing them, because the old windows are beautiful, I don't want to lose the charm).

I have turned it into a house though, that looks a lot like every other house I've lived in. Cluttered and not very intentional looking. Everything in it looks like something chosen almost at random, with little regard for harmony and not very tidy.

I am not a "dirty" untidy person, in that it isn't a pile of cat litter in the living room, or piles of dirty dishes mixed in with the clothes all over the floor. Nothing like that.

Just a lot of books, art stuff, DVDs, clothes stored everywhere. Dusty. Everything is full and there's no real organization.

This house has every potential of being very lovely. With any luck, we will be here a long time. I would really like to enjoy it as a nice looking home. Even if I could manage to keep the main floor really nice looking.

I am looking at making some storage space in the crawl space, which is not being used at all, and there's a ton of space in there. I could easily put most of our DVD collection in there, and it would still be easy to access. That would help a lot. It is accessible by a nice little hobbit door.

I need to go through our sheets and towels and such, and get rid of about half of them.

I would like to finally live in a house that looks and feels like a choice, not a circumstance.

Things do accumulate rather fast here, too, and I’m trying to go through the house once a year and make a list of all the places that need to be organized, decluttered and repaired/improved. One day I will get through the list!

Yeah, like Spatzie said. I sometimes manage to do a single area-- one pile of old mail cleared away, one drawer, etc. That helps me feel better sometimes!
