Mar. 21st, 2022 12:07 amToday I am grateful for:
Mild temperatures today. We got another big dump of heavy, wet snow today, and our lane is fairly filled in again.
Wonder seems comfortable walking on the hoof that was sore. It likely was an abscess, they can come and go quickly under the right circumstances.
That I made it safely to the barn. There was a lot of wet slush on the one stretch of highway that hadn't been cleared. The water was streaming up and over the car as I drove, I had to have the wipers on. It was cleared by the time I was driving home.
River did well with our groundwork and stayed relaxed and focused, after the first few minutes of wondering how his friends were doing outside. The snow sliding off the fabric of the roof was distracting, but not too bad. We rode for a while too, and he did a nice job of his transitions today.
I spent a little extra time just hanging out with him in the barn afterwards, because lately it seems like I've been in there with other people all putting away at the same time, and you don't always feel like you have time just to be with your horse and have each other's attention.
I came home and napped, reveling in the smell of freshly washed fuzzy blanket that I had hung outside to dry yesterday when it was above zero.
Today I learned about Brandon Grimshaw, who bought a small island (called Moyenne) in the Seychelles, and transformed it into a paradise and a sanctuary for endangered species. It became the world's smallest national park, and he is buried there.
