Mar. 26th, 2022 01:15 amToday I am grateful for:
Managing to get up early (for me) so that I could go with my Sweetie to the city.
He finally got his vasectomy. I had called the clinic to check if there were earlier dates than the May they originally told my husband, and they had a cancellation. I made the appointment only a few days after they first told him there were no appointments until May, so almost two weeks ago.
I still had to make sure my husband got the right day, had to make sure he called to confirm the appointment, and so on. He actually thought it was tomorrow, and had that stuck in his head in spite of me being very clear about the appointment date.
It really didn't take very long, and so far he says the pain is pretty manageable.
Of course we have to make sure it worked, at a check up in two months.
Otherwise, it will be nice to be able to work through the end stage of my own fertility, likely the lack thereof, without having any worry of a pregnancy.
He felt okay enough to go back to the art gallery to see the Maud Lewis exhibit again. We were kind of rushed the first time, so this time we just relaxed and enjoyed it.
The art gallery store had a much better book of her work this time, so I bought it. The last time we came, they had one small book with not very good images.
After that, we just came home.
I went to go see River while my Sweetie rested. He's not supposed to do any real work for a while, so I guess this weekend is just going to be a break for him.
River did really well. He was calm and relaxed, but did a good job with everything. I love days like this where he is focused and comfortable.
I came home and we watched "Larry Crowne", a feel-good romantic comedy with Tom Hanks in it. It was pretty average, decent entertainment without being too challenging.
Today I learned that the world's oldest government in exile (The Belarusian Democratic Republic) is actually in CANADA. That's right. This Belarusian government proclaimed itself in 1918 during WWI, while Belarus was occupied by the German Imperial Army (not Nazis yet, the German Empire). This Democratic Republic never got to hold all of Belarus, so shared the country with a Communist party (I don't understand it either).
The entire territory ceased to exist due to the capture of the whole Belarusian territory by Polish and Socialist Soviet Republic of Byelorussia forces during the Polish–Soviet War of 1919–1921.
Belarus was then occupied by Nazis in WWII, then went BACK to belonging to the U.S.S.R. after the war, and finally became an independent country again in 1991.
Apparently the original plan was to reinstate democracy in Belarus at this time, but Alexander Lukashenko was elected in 1994 as President, and established an authoritarian government, so no more real elections or democracy.
Yet, the Belarusian Democratic Republic is somehow still an entity housing itself within Canada. Mostly it lobbies for the reinstatement of Democracy in Belarus.
That's as much sense as I could make of it. I honestly do not know how this works, given that you'd think that all of the members of the Belarusian Democratic Republic are either very old, or dead now. Are there new members, or does it exist as nothing more than a legal entity?
Up until 2021, The current Belarus also had an embassy in Canada, but closed it because of Canada's condemnation of the current government.
Lukashenko gets "elected" every election, and is still in charge.
Some of this is more relevant right now because of the current war between Russia and the Ukraine, and Belarus being a Russian ally.

Date: 2022-03-26 01:33 pm (UTC)Have you seen the film Maudie with Ethan Hawke? you might like it.
I hadn't heard of Larry Crowne but now want to watch it. Tom Hanks/Julie Roberts seems a strange pairing.
I also didn't know about the Belarusian govt in exile. very interesting.

Date: 2022-03-26 08:00 pm (UTC)It was odd to see Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts in a movie together. Tom's wife Rita Wilson also had a part in the movie.
