Mar. 28th, 2022 12:45 amToday I am grateful for:
Reasonable weather.
The second carpenter had a "family emergency" and couldn't come today. We are tentatively scheduled for tomorrow. Hard to say what his family emergency might have been, but it makes you wonder if he's reliable. Oh well. We'll at least try to meet with him.
Our neighbor to the North of us walked over with a friend and a kid to see the animals and say Hi. I never quite get used to people just dropping in on us, and this seems to be how this person likes to do things. Same with the other woman across the road. I know they are just being neighborly, but I really would prefer that they talk to me first. I don't like it when people just come into the yard to see if you're home, and maybe knock on the door. I sleep pretty late, or spend time just lounging around half dressed, and I don't like surprises. I also don't like people just wandering over to look at the animals.
I seem to not be good enough at communicating with people to contact me first, even though I SAY SO, and give them my number. I don't want to be rude when they show up, but...?
It's one thing if they see me outside and they stop in, because that is a sure sign that I am awake and clothed. Just coming in the yard and wandering around isn't cool.
Anyhow, it WAS nice to see her. We all chatted for a while outside.
My Sweetie and I did a few "light duty" tasks. We did the dishes. He took out the recycling and the compost. We wiped the dust off of the ceiling fan blades in the living room, and the fly specks off of the kitchen light fixture. I pulled out the stove and cleaned out the wads of hair and dust, and the hoard of little toys and caps that the cats lost under it. I also wiped down the sides, where everything runs down between the stove and the cupboards. Then I did a better job of cleaning the stove top than I usually do. We changed the cat litter. I took out the kitchen garbage.
I went to see River (while my Sweetie had a break at home). He was very calm and focused, and we did really well on our ground work and Liberty. Also very well on riding. We did more work on gait transitions up and down, using just the seat.
Then I came home, we had supper and watched "Peacock", which was very interesting, though it had one of those enigmatic endings.
Today I learned That the smallest municipality in Canada (a municipality is sort of like a county) in Quebec. Notre-Dame-des-Anges has a population of 318 people, and consists of 15 acres within the city of Quebec.
It was a fief that was donated to Recollect friars (a Franciscan sect), then it passed to Jesuits, then Recollect Friars again, and in 1692 was purchased by a bishop to found a hospital. It became the General Hospital of Quebec.
The municipality is more or less the hospital, a church, a building that used to be a monastery, and a museum.

If I am not mistaken, this is where my husband's cousin (who is an RN) had her training.

Date: 2022-03-28 07:59 am (UTC)At the height of lockdown, I had a neighbour over to sip wine and natter on the porch, nicely distanced. She brought lemon bars, and that was even nicer. But it was planned.
The light duties are good - fewer chores to tackle during the week.

Date: 2022-03-28 10:18 pm (UTC)I don't want anyone feeding them when I'm not there, I don't want anyone going into the pens to pet them in case they leave the gate open, and I don't want anyone deciding that I am "abusing them" because they don't see any hay on the ground (I feed twice a day, but that means most of the time it doesn't look like they have any food. Horses and ponies DO NOT need a constant food supply).
I don't know what I have to tell people to get them to text or call first and arrange to meet. I am otherwise reasonably open to having people come over to visit me and the animals, but I do not want anyone poking around our yard while I am away or still asleep.

Date: 2022-03-28 11:20 pm (UTC)When you explain about animals, it always makes so much sense. It would be like someone entering someone's house and feeding their kids and playing with them.

Date: 2022-03-29 05:41 am (UTC)They are nice people, super friendly, and I do like them. I have actually mentioned to both of them to please text/call before coming over, and both have just decided that doesn't apply to them.
One of the women, I'm reasonably sure knows better than to feed anything to the animals, other one (the one who dropped by most recently) not as sure, but I made a huge point of mentioning how some of the animals have special food issues.
When we used to live in Wyoming, I had a HUGE problem with the neighborhood kids just coming into our yard to pet our dog, and one kid let him out. Those kids would also knock on our door early in the morning to come see our animals, and one girl let herself into the house.
It's almost like as soon as it is known that you have animals, then you MUST be willing to share them!
