Apr. 14th, 2022 03:24 amToday I am grateful for:
Reasonable weather, if still chilly. It seemed warmer than the last couple of days, maybe only because the wind has gone down.
The septic lad (not a boy, yet not quite a man yet) came to look at our septic system, and he determined that the pump is fine, and doesn't need replacing. So, he set everything back up, with the floats etc. in place, and we'll see what happens.
I went to see River, and we had a lesson today. My lesson today was almost a sales pitch. A woman who is taking a few lessons to learn how to drive from R, was interested in the Liberty aspect of training. She sat in on our lesson, with the potential of her taking more lessons to learn Liberty. Which is all well and good. At least River and I did a decent job of showcasing our skills.
River actually did VERY well today in general.
We got some homework in the ridden work, mainly about communicating direction with our seat and legs.
I came home and made a few bracelets. R asked me if I would make several to be given as part of little prizes for a small local show.
I learned that construction of the Washington Monument was halted for several years because of a lack of funds, in-fighting in the National Monument Society controlling the build, and the Civil War. You can see the different color of the marble used after the halt.
I also learned that the interior is hollow, with a set of iron stairs inside and an elevator, and there are observation windows.
It has a small aluminum apex which, at the time it was cast, was more valuable than gold (remember that post?). It is inscribed with details about the designer etc.
There is a net of cables over the top of it, connecting to a series of lightening rods.
