May. 15th, 2022 10:59 pmToday I am grateful for:
A GORGEOUS day. Very warm and sunny, a bit of a breeze. No mosquitoes.
Doing small amounts of spot cleaning in the house, like the toilet and sink in the bathroom, wipe some spots off the wall, clear off the kitchen counter. Tiny things that I still notice later.
I began washing two of River's blankets by soaking them in a tub outside.
I went to see River, and had a great day with him. His breathing wasn't great, so we did some groundwork/Liberty, and then I decided just to mosey around with him. We rode around in one of the unused pastures, and after a while one of the other riders joined us, and we made a few laps.
Then, R and her daughter joined us, and we went into the pasture where River is normally kept, and rode around on the little bush trails together. It was super fun, and a really good day for it.
Then I washed River's saddle pad and boots (even though they go on his legs, they are called boots).
I came home and let everyone out into their pastures for a while.
I learned that Dick Fosbury, an engineering student, applied his understanding of physics to approach the high jump differently than how people were currently jumping. Mainly because he failed to master the current trend, which was to go over the bar legs first. He developed his own unique style, took it to the 1968 Olympics in Mexico, and won the gold medal. His style is referred to as the Fosbury Flop, and it is still the way people approach the high jump.

Date: 2022-05-16 08:01 pm (UTC)Yesterday was the perfect moseying day. Warm and sunny, no bugs, the ground was dry but not DRY. Lovely.
I think it's good for the horse/human relationship to do this reasonably often if you can, so that it isn't all about the goals.
