May. 28th, 2022 11:48 pmToday I am grateful for:
Being back home again. I drove all day yesterday, and by the time I crawled into our yard in the wee hours, I was half out of my mind. That drive always feels like some kind of spirit journey, because you end up losing all sense of time and everything becomes very "present" because you are focusing on the road ahead, and little else. I often stop and walk around in places like tiny cemeteries in the middle of nowhere, tiny towns, on a gravel road overlooking a valley. I might never stop there again.
Today I got to sleep with all the kitties again. My sweetie said they missed me. Roxy was beside herself that I was back.
There is too much to do for me to take the day off. I had to unpack the car, because it is the one my Sweetie usually drives. I drive it to go home because of how good it is on fuel.
I unpacked the car. I made a space in the sea can for the big chair, because there is nowhere for it until we get more done on the house. I brought a huge box of kitchen stuff in from the sea can of our own stuff that's been in there since we tore the trailer down. I sorted through it, put some of it away, and some of it in a box to go to the thrift store.
I mowed grass for about two hours with the ride-on.
My sweetie had to drive back to his "work apartment" tonight. He's been working from home this past week, so today while I was doing everything else, he was working on his lap top.
After he was done work, we went to the park down the road for a walk, which was nice. Lots of people at the campground area.
Then after he left, I pulled grass in the garden while I let the horse/ponies/goats out into their pastures. I need to plant this week if I can.
Then I groomed the ponies; they have very thick manes that needed attention.
The main house computer is working again (Whew!), so I am happy about that.
Today I learned a bit about what Roman gladiators probably ate. It seems that for a while, it was thought that they were mostly vegetarian. They were known to eat large amounts of barley and legumes, which would have made them a little fat because of all the carbs.

Then another article claims that newer evidence shows that while they may have been mostly vegetarian, they did consume fish and meat when available.

Both articles mention that the gladiators consumed a drink containing plant ash, which was supposed to help with healing. It would have been like taking a calcium supplement. Apparently their bones were stronger than most other skeletons of Romans at that time because of this drink.
