Today I am grateful for:

A pleasantly cool, rainy day. We could use the moisture. The trees smell wonderful.

My Sweetie actually got up at a reasonable time and did some actual, physical work on the addition. Most of this year, he would just not bother trying to do anything on Monday, because that is the last day he is home and he tends to not bother trying to get anything done. Even though he doesn't leave for his work apartment until around 4pm. Today he got something done.

I was able to help a bit. I can't always, if it is something beyond my ability, but I could at least put screws into the drywall that he put up on the half wall beside the stairs, and to help him measure, and hold stuff. This is the kind of help I usually do with him.

He laid down some of the floor material. It is meant to be on top of the plywood, because this stuff is nice and smooth to put linoleum on top of.

Then after he left for his work apartment I went to town.

I stopped in at the transfer station (the dump). The woman who works there is married to the guy who does the septic stuff, and he never gives you a bill, you just go talk to his wife and figure out what you owe him. She didn't think we owed anything, but he did come pump us out a while ago when we were having the issues with the septic alarm/pump not being set up right. She called him and, yes, we did owe him for that, so I paid them. It's not a great system, and I bet some people take advantage of them, but I would never want to be on bad terms with the local septic folks, so I MAKE SURE they get paid.

We also chatted for a while. I really like her.

I spent some time in the pottery studio, glazing a bit, but not starting anything new.

Then I went to Winner's for retail therapy.

Then I got some groceries, and I am very grateful to be able to buy food. The guy at the check out was funny, and I hope we made each other's day a little better by joking with each other. I often try to strike up conversations with people at check out counters, because we both probably need to be acknowledged as being real people who need a bit of connection.

A woman from back home posted that her Mom passed away. Her Mom was in the care home when I went to see our Mom, and I was sad to see how lost she was. I've known this woman all of my life. She and her husband were neighbors, and we bought weanling pigs from them to raise to butchering size. We used to go play cards with them from time to time. She had a pretty rough life, with a husband who never fixed up the house. They had an outhouse for a long time. Maybe even the whole time they were on the farm.

She and Mom were moving into town at the same time (this other lady's husband had recently died, so she was moving to town), and bid on the same house, and she won it. My Mom, though upset to lose the house she preferred, ended up feeling that this woman deserved a nice house finally, after living in a crappy house for so long.

She worked in the restaurant in town when she was younger, and she was always jovial and chatty. Later, I would still see this woman around town when I went home to visit Mom in her house, and she would always give me a hug and chat with me.

I will miss her.

Today I learned what an important role the weather played in the success of the landing of British troops on the beaches of Normandy. The conditions had to be perfect. A full moon and calm seas, which were predicted in a very narrow window by meteorologists.

I like to chat with service people as well; I think they run into many hostile and selfish customers and could use a bit of kindness from one.

Huzzah to getting something done on the flooring. What comes next? Have you linoleum to put down?

What kind of linoleum? Will you be putting down a checkerboard of tiles, or a large sheet?

I like getting to know servers at coffee shops, et cetera. It's pleasant to be recognised as a nice customer as ewell as a regular.
