Today I am grateful for:

So many sweet kitty snuggles. They really out-do themselves in the cuddle department when I'm in bed.

I pulled some of the grass and weeds in an area I am planning to mulch with cedar on one side of the house, and watered part of the garden while I was doing that.

Roxy looked very happy napping in some shade while I was working.

I went to the barn for my lesson, and I chose not to say anything about the show or about the girl riding a different horse. So far, all of my weird feelings were expressed elsewhere, and until I know more, there is no point being confrontational.

The lesson went well, R worked with River herself, because she needed to see where he was at so that we could get him to collect with the bitless bridle, so that she can tell me what to do with him.

She went through the usual ground work, and then she rode. He was trying to lean into the contact instead of carrying himself, so she worked on that.

We did talk about the show, in the usual kind of way. The "you did really well" talk. I did ask if we could go through the score sheet that she made for the show, and look at where I could do better. Maybe for the next lesson.

I do have to pay better attention though, she made some offhand comment about how maybe I should have lessons with this other lady who just started, and I didn't catch that moment. I will have to decide if I even want to do a group lesson again. She charges the same price, and it is not a better experience for us. I usually end up working on my own while she coaches the other person, and she might give us something to work on at the same time, but this woman is just starting, meaning that nothing she is doing will line up with what I am working on. It would make more sense for her to be in a group lesson with someone who is also just starting.

She didn't say anything about the girl who sometimes rides River.

I was really proud of River today. The wind was really bad, like it was thinking about a thunderstorm, and the covering of the arena was moving a bit, and lots of noise outside, but he was very calm and focused through the whole lesson.

I came home and let everyone out into their pastures for a while.

Then I had a nice bath.

I learned about Warramaba virgo, a species of grasshopper in Australia that is made up entirely of females who produce clones. There are no males.

They aren't the only insect who does this, but I find it pretty amazing.
