Today I am grateful for:

Lovely hot weather, though we sure could have used some rain from the clouds in the last few days.

I stuck fairly close to home today. I did run to the tiny town near us, and popped into the little second hand store. I found a lovely ruby glass vase with gold and other painting on it, looks to be hand painted. The story is that a woman who is a friend of the store owner got it from her MIL, and hated it, but couldn't get rid of it until she had passed. I think it is lovely, and I am happy to clear the negativity around it.

Funny how something loathed by one person is admired by another.

I got fuel in the jerry can for the lawn mower.

I came home and read for a while, since it was a little hot for outdoor work.

Then I let everyone out into their pastures while I worked on mulching along one side of the house. I hope to have everything right around the house mulched with cedar this summer, because I don't want to mow right against the house.

I also watered the garden while I worked.

I spent a little time making outfits again. I am making an effort to actually make proper complete outfits ahead of time, and get used to pairing things so that I will actually wear them.

When I finally get an opportunity to wear something other than shitty sweat pants, I am often not prepared. Either my legs aren't ready, or my toenails, or I can't just put on an outfit because I never have the right top for the bottom, or a belt. Then I end up just putting on jeans and a t shirt, even though I would like to wear something more creative. It takes a lot of courage for me to wear some of the more interesting clothes I have, that need a bit of work to style them right so that they don't look too dressy. Like wearing a nice skirt but trying not to look like it's a fancy dress up look, but that lovely fancy casual that some people pull off effortlessly.

I learned that TIL that in the operatic song in The Fifth Element, composer Eric Sierra "purposely wrote un-singable things" so she’d sound like an alien. When opera singer Inva Muls came for the part, "she sang 85% of what [Eric] thought was technically impossible", the rest being assembled in the studio.

For anyone who hasn't seen "The Fifth Element", here is the scene.

The woman singing in the clip is an actress, not the person who sang the piece.
