Jun. 13th, 2022 10:43 pmToday I am grateful for:
That really, my problems today weren't that big a deal, it was just annoying.
I needed to change the tires on the car today, so I loaded up the summer tires, and I kind of wondered if they were really good enough to put back on.
So I got to the tire shop (not our usual local mechanic, who is not doing too well lately), handed them the keys, and walked to a fun antique/jewelry shop right across the street.
At the shop, I get a call from the tire shop. They say the tires are not good enough to use (which I figured). So, I got the tire shop to call my husband at work, so that he can talk to them about what tires to put on it. I COULD have called my husband myself and then called the shop, but I thought it would save time if they talked to each other.
I stayed at the antique/jewelry shop for a while, and it was lots of nice stuff, but it was wayyy too crowded and you couldn't really appreciate anything because there were boxes of stuff everywhere, and lots did not have price tags. Interesting but disorganized.
I also got strong "vibes" from the guy who owned (?) the place, and that was odd. I was just clean, not really dressed up, and yet I got very strong signals from this guy, without anything at all being overt or creepy, which is even stranger. He must be a very good communicator to do that. Also his wife was right there. Very odd all around.
So I went back to the tire shop, and here's where it gets really sucky. I go to PAY for the tires, and I realize that our debit's daily limit won't cover the amount, so I call my husband again, because usually we pay for bigger things with the credit card so we get the points, but HE has the credit card with him. They won't allow him to pay for the tires with our credit card because he IS NOT THERE IN PERSON. I didn't have mine.
So, there I am. I paid half of it with debit, but I couldn't pay the full amount because of our daily limit.
I didn't know whether I could go withdraw cash for the rest or if it would be denied because I would be using the debit again. They wouldn't let me write a check.
So, what I came up with, is that I figured the bill only JUST exceeded our daily limit, I dug up cash so that the remainder should fall below the daily limit, and it worked.
According to my husband, when HE spoke with the tire shop, he told them that he would be paying with his credit card over the phone before they put the new tires on, but somehow when the time came, it was NOT okay.
I think that he didn't make it clear that it was his card, and that it would be over the phone.
I was so upset. I was literally just standing there with the shop trying to close, and I didn't know how to pay them. We had more than enough in the account to cover it, didn't even NEED to use the credit card, but they wouldn't take a check. Even when I paid for half of it with debit first.
As I said, I finally found a way to make it work, but I felt like I was left out to hang by my husband, who probably didn't clarify to the staff that the payment would be over the phone.
I didn't DO ANYTHING to deserve to be put in that kind of spot. I just got screwed over by everyone today in that situation.
Though they did NOTHING to make things better for me, the tire shop isn't REALLY to blame if this is their policy, but how did my husband's intention of paying with his card over the phone get so ignored? My husband isn't to blame either, as he thought he had made his intentions clear.
Utter bullshit, all of it.
At least I did get tires. Phaugh! (statement of disgust).
So I went to the thrift store, and found a few things.
I missed getting the mail because our post office closes at five, and you can no longer access the boxes after office hours.
I got some groceries, and got checked out by a guy as I walked in. No joke. He was packing his groceries and turned his head to look at me. A full look, not a glance. Okay, so apparently the look I thought of as "Amish Housewife goes to town" is hot stuff. Who knew?
There was a rain storm brewing, that broke by the time I got home, which is good. More moisture is needed right now.
Today I learned about the shell grotto in Margate, Kent (in England). It was rediscovered by the new property owner in 1835, when he was doing some ground excavation for house renovations. It is now open to the public.
The Shell Grotto consists of a winding subterranean passageway, about 8 feet (2.4 m) high and 70 feet (21 m) in length, terminating in a rectangular room, referred to as the Altar Chamber and measuring approximately 15 by 20 ft (5 by 6 m).
The entire interior surface is covered in elaborate mosaics made of shells, and no one knows the purpose behind this structure.

It's an unusually prickly day. You did well in manoeuvring the money doinkery.

Date: 2022-06-14 07:13 pm (UTC)As to "Okay, so apparently the look I thought of as "Amish Housewife goes to town" is hot stuff. Who knew?" that cracked me up!!!! Again... things are getting so weird places. But, hey (shrug and smile) if it works, you rock it, sister! :D

Date: 2022-06-14 09:08 pm (UTC)As to my outfit, I promise you it was just clean clothes that looked nice, not trying to be sexy at all. Maybe that in itself is refreshing. I will have to remember the power of that outfit when I wear it again, and not abuse it!
