What would you name your boat, if you had one?

What situation did you see a lot on television as a kid that you thought might be something you would have to deal with a lot as an adult, but wasn't that big a thing after all?

What strange thing did you actually believe was true before you found out it wasn't?

"Live, Laugh, Love"...what dumb slogan are you just tired of seeing?

What is the best purchase you've ever made, what was the worst?

Where is the worst smelling place you've ever been?

What is your most interesting useless talent? Can you wiggle your ears, or draw a perfect circle, or imitate a bird?

I too am sorry that Boaty McBoatface is taken. I doubt I'll ever have a boat. I do have a washing machine, and it's called the Leakin' Lena, for reasons you can guess.

Infatuation.

What strange thing did you actually believe was true before you found out it wasn't?

I believed that the feminist "bra-burning" protest in 1968 was true - and it's certainly still being reinforced (often with derisive laughter) by some men.

"Live, Laugh, Love"...what dumb slogan are you just tired of seeing?

Like you, I have no patience for the blackboard-style cottagecore home signs: "Let's stay home", "Love lives here", "Together is my favourite place", "It all started with you", et cetera. They are trite and insincere though they pretend not to be.

What is the best purchase you've ever made, what was the worst?

The best purchase I made was a new roof. (Second place would be a beautiful cast-iron fence. Third place would be a new kitchen.)
The worst purchase was an expensive Japanese chef's knife, a birthday present for a false friend who was in the middle of betrayal when I bought it.

Where is the worst smelling place you've ever been?

The worst-smelling place I have visited was True Davidson Acres - the Alzheimer's floor of a senior's home.

What is your most interesting useless talent? Can you wiggle your ears, or draw a perfect circle, or imitate a bird?

I can imitate Julia Child - her voice, not her cooking skills.

The knife was given as a gift, as I did not realise the friend was a side-swipin' lying SOB. Hopefully, they will not know how to take care of it properly and it will become useless. I remained gracious. It wasn't easy, but graciousness never is.

Lois's first apartment, an assisted living residence, did not smell. This was a place for early-to-mid stage Alzheimer's patients. When she moved to a nursing home, the Alzheimer's floor smelled bad. Some of the residents were combative and had to be calmed, sometimes through sedation, to have their nappies changed. It's not that the staff was negligent in changing them. Lois did not stay there very long.

Lois was, luckily, one of the happier ones. She thought she was either 20 or 22 (she had memory problems, you see) and lived in a boarding house where everyone doted on her and knew she was a smart cookie. I visited her nearly every day and she thought I was a daughter, a sister, a different sister, a different sister, a cousin, a friend, and a neighbour. It was a good life, even at the end.

I did go back to the false friend's house afterward, gracious as you please, and sneakily took back another gift I once gave. My terrible behaviour went unnoticed, and to this day I enjoy the gift myself.
