My sister used to watch some soap opera where people kept disappearing and then they came back after a while and they had amnesia for a while. Lots of shows showed people with amnesia as major plot points. I haven't seen much of it around as an adult. The other one was quick sand. That one really had me worried. What we do have around here in places is just really bad mud, and I respect it.
What strange thing did you actually believe was true before you found out it wasn't? As a kid I thought Jackalopes were real.
"Live, Laugh, Love"...what dumb slogan are you just tired of seeing? I am to the point where I hate pretty much anything painted onto wood in people's homes.
What is the best purchase you've ever made, what was the worst? Not sure if it is THE best, but I feel like the saddle I have for River has been a good purchase. It fits him well, and is sooo comfortable from my perspective.
The worst? Well, it didn't cause any harm, but years ago I spent a TON of money on a leather stitching machine and I could never get it to work properly. Now it just sits there. I should either commit to learning how it works, or sell it.
Where is the worst smelling place you've ever been? Though I don't recall which one specifically, I've been in a dairy barn in the days when the regulations weren't so strict, and it was awful. I was also in a PMU (pregant mare urine) barn, and the ammonia smell mostly from a barn that appeared to have never been cleaned out was pretty bad. Same with chicken or hog barns, again, these were not modern facilities.
What is your most interesting useless talent? Can you wiggle your ears, or draw a perfect circle, or imitate a bird? I am really good at starting a camp fire, though I suppose that isn't a useless skill. I have a card trick that one of my brother in laws taught me a long time ago, that is not a "trick" but based on math, and it works every time if you do it right.

Infatuation.
What strange thing did you actually believe was true before you found out it wasn't?
I believed that the feminist "bra-burning" protest in 1968 was true - and it's certainly still being reinforced (often with derisive laughter) by some men.
"Live, Laugh, Love"...what dumb slogan are you just tired of seeing?
Like you, I have no patience for the blackboard-style cottagecore home signs: "Let's stay home", "Love lives here", "Together is my favourite place", "It all started with you", et cetera. They are trite and insincere though they pretend not to be.
What is the best purchase you've ever made, what was the worst?
The best purchase I made was a new roof. (Second place would be a beautiful cast-iron fence. Third place would be a new kitchen.)
The worst purchase was an expensive Japanese chef's knife, a birthday present for a false friend who was in the middle of betrayal when I bought it.
Where is the worst smelling place you've ever been?
The worst-smelling place I have visited was True Davidson Acres - the Alzheimer's floor of a senior's home.
What is your most interesting useless talent? Can you wiggle your ears, or draw a perfect circle, or imitate a bird?
I can imitate Julia Child - her voice, not her cooking skills.

Date: 2022-06-21 09:37 pm (UTC)Wow, the smelly senior's residence sounds terrible. I have to say, my Mom's residence smells very neutral.
I guess so far, I could add that buying our current home was a very good purchase. It is solidly build and has good bones.
Being able to imitate Julia Child might be useful, under the right circumstances.

Date: 2022-06-22 03:04 am (UTC)Lois's first apartment, an assisted living residence, did not smell. This was a place for early-to-mid stage Alzheimer's patients. When she moved to a nursing home, the Alzheimer's floor smelled bad. Some of the residents were combative and had to be calmed, sometimes through sedation, to have their nappies changed. It's not that the staff was negligent in changing them. Lois did not stay there very long.
