Jul. 3rd, 2022 01:32 amToday I am grateful for:
That today was Git'R DONE day.
I pulled weeds and grass for far too long, and though there will always be more to pull, I can see improvement in the garden. It is for sure a Sisyphean task.
We planted the two cherry trees.
I pulled grass and weeds away from some of the other rose bushes and shrubs. I have one area of shrubs in two rows.
I planted the Shasta daisies out with the other perennials. Then I found some cardboard to lay down around it and got some of the animal bedding from the pony/goat shed to mulch around them.
There were some more poppies blooming today.
Then I planted the remaining bedding plants that I bought when I got the other plants. Just a few to stick in here and there.
While I was doing that, my Sweetie made some progress in the porch putting up drywall and a bit of the mud compound, as well as putting up a bit of drywall to make a storage area under the stairs in the basement.
I let everyone out into the pasture for a while.
Then we cleaned up, had supper, and watched "Ant Man".
I learned about the Gunslinger Effect, a concept named for Niels Bohr's conclusion that in a gunfight, the second person to draw will usually win. The neural pathways that a person uses to make a deliberate movement (the first person to draw) will be much slower than the reflexive action neural pathway (the second person to draw, who is reflexively reacting).
This was tested in mock gunfights using cap guns, and the second person to draw always won in these experiments.
This Gunslinger effect can be seen in sports events other than just gunfights.

Date: 2022-07-04 07:32 am (UTC)We do have rose bushes, and those are lovely. The one straggly strip of perennials is a lot of work to keep the grass out of it, but this year we were rewarded with poppies and some other little guys, like the flowering geraniums. The daises did well in the old flower bed, but didn't come up in the new one. Hope these guys make it.

Date: 2022-07-04 07:29 am (UTC)Perhaps even better, is caution in rougher areas, though that's tough if you live in one.

Date: 2022-07-05 06:36 pm (UTC)I don't plan to visit the US any time in the future. Too many guns for my comfort - and people who are happy to use them.
