Today I am grateful for:

A hot, sunny day. We had a loud thunder storm last night, and some rain. I hope it didn't ruin anyone's hay. With it being hot today, the yard was still dry quickly.

I talked with my sister E, and she had a very hard week. Her MIL fell, and broke her cheek bone and several teeth. NOW I guess this is prompting action towards starting the process to find a care facility. It really seems like people don't see the changes in an elderly person until a horrible accident happens.

My sister E also slipped getting out of a pool, and had to get stitches on her head. She did not have a concussion, so at least there is that.

My Sweetie and I started on installing a screen door, and stopped part way through to go see River.

River wasn't terribly energetic with the heat, but his breathing wasn't awful. We worked on our obstacles at Liberty, and I worked very hard to bring positivity to our training today. He did a little better on the two obstacles that are hard for us, and I rewarded him for his efforts, and didn't push for more today. I left it on a good note.

We then went inside the little arena, and I rode him bareback with just the neck rope. We worked on being able to make nicer circles, and on control. So we did smaller circles, and bigger circles. He did really well.

Then we came home, and my husband finished installing the screen door, and I let the animals out for a while and mowed as much as I could in the hour and a half or so before it got dark.

Then we came in and watched more of "The Boys". It is gruesome, but the story line is very good.

I learned about Julius Chambers: "in 1872, he returned to work and undertook a journalistic investigation of Bloomingdale Asylum, having himself committed with the help of some of his friends and the city editor. His intent was to obtain information about alleged abuse of inmates. After ten days, his collaborators on the project had him released. When articles and accounts of the experience were published in the Tribune, it led to the release of twelve patients who were not mentally ill, a reorganization of the staff and administration of the institution and, eventually, to a change in the lunacy laws.[1][10][Note 4] This later led to the publication of the book A Mad World and Its People (1876). From this time onward, Chambers was frequently invited to speak on the rights of the mentally ill and the need for proper facilities for their accommodation, care and treatment.[11]"
