Jul. 18th, 2022 10:57 pmToday I am grateful for:
Another hot summer day, and no rain.
My husband finished installing the screen door he began yesterday, and put another one on another door. It isn't exactly what I thought we'd be doing for progress, but I can understand why he's doing them now. He needs them in place with frames in order to put siding on the house later this summer.
He loaded the back of the truck with more random wood that is too small for projects, and the rotten window frame that didn't go to the dump last time. I loaded up some recycling (the dump has bins there).
He left for work, and I took the load to the dump.
We have garden lettuce now, and garden radishes, so he was able to take some with him.
I got honey from the woman who works at the dump. People in her family work for the honey producers, so she sells honey at the dump. It works well.
I found a stack of flattened moving boxes to take home and use as weed barrier.
I stopped in and visited with a friend who lives near the dump. She is the person who often talks about herself to the point of rudeness, but she is a decent person. I haven't heard from her at all in months, so I thought I would check in.
Mostly she is tired of her MIL's incessant demands/needs, since no one is talking about a care facility. This woman really isn't doing well on her own, and would be happier likely, but everyone is doing the same thing that everyone seems to do in this situation; pretend that she's doing fine. Even when she needs help for almost every aspect of her life.
My friend and I mutually vented about husbands leaving shit all over the yard for a while.
I talked with my Sweetie for a while once he arrived at his work apartment, and he FINALLY seems to be in the frame of mind for planning work and getting things done. I think getting a few weekends where something finally happened and he moved out of his procrastination/defensive mindset has made him feel like accomplishing things is nice. I really hope this mindset carries through, and doesn't fizz out over the winter like it usually does.
I came home and let everyone out for a while.
Today I learned that there was so much shit in the streets of 14th century Paris that multiple roads had names which originated from the french word for shit, "merde": rue Merdeux, rue Merdelet, rue Merdusson, rue des Merdons, and rue Merdiere. There was also a rue de Pipi, or "Urine Street".
Charming.
