Jul. 31st, 2022 02:27 amToday I am grateful for;
My Sweetie went to the dump to get rid of all the old cupboards and the old toilet that we've been putting on there the last few days. BOOM! GONE!
Then the contractor came over and we talked about building the bedroom in the basement, and my husband says he might as well build the bathroom walls while he's here too, since it is all kind of the same project. We do want a bathroom down there.
I know my husband doesn't want to spend the extra money on hiring someone to do this work, and I agree. I know my husband could do the work. BUT, it isn't getting done, is it? The summer is half over, and we don't have the master bedroom or the mud room finished, and he is going to have to focus on the siding on the outside soon, so...in order to keep moving forward, some work has to be happening while he is at his job or we'll never get done.
The contractor can't come right away, but some time in the next month he can likely start. He first thought he could start next week, but another job he is working on added changes.
Then my Sweetie loaded up the truck with the sheets of plywood he is ready to give to our friend, and we drove to the city to drop it off. We wanted to spend some fun time in the city today, but this gives it a purpose, too.
We visited with our friend for a while, and he gave us some tarps that he won't need anymore, that we can maybe use in the barn to keep the hay from getting dusty. If we don't use them, well, in a few years THEY can be given away.
I finally met his wife, who is very nice. I briefly saw their home, and what is nice is that they have similar happy clutter and pets, and would likely not find our home to be unwelcoming. That is nice. I could actually see having them over for a meal and not be in panic mode. They have a kitty and a sweet dog, too, so they would understand litter box existence and pet hair.
We found a store that sells DVDs, and it was kind of "punk underground" ish, but we're likely safe enough there. It was mostly used stuff, and NOT cheap, but I found two movies that I had been looking for specifically, and one additional one. They apparently do get newer movies as people bring them in. We'll likely go back from time to time. The owner seems like a genuinely nice person who loves movies.
Then we went to the book store and found a few things there too. Good day for entertainment.
Then we had a bite to eat, and went to Home Depot on our way out of town to pick up a few little things. We looked at ceiling fans, but nothing was a definite yes, and scouted some tiles options. One thing really appealed to my husband, and I think we need to make sure we find a way to incorporate it somewhere. It is so rare that something actually resonates with him aesthetically. I like them too, so there.
We came home, let everyone out for a while, and pulled weeds like mad dogs for about an hour. Yes, there really are a lot of weeds. With all the rain we've had this year, they don't stop growing for a second. The nice thing, is that the soil has become so much softer than when we moved here (mainly in the last few years from all the pony poop compost, which also adds to the weeds) that pulling the weeds is not so onerous as it used to be.
Then we came in and watched more of "The Boys". I have to say, the amount of sex and general grossness is really high in this show, which is too bad because the writing and character development is otherwise spectacular. They could take it down several notches and it would not ruin the show in any way.
Today I learned that the Parthenon was more or less perfect for about 2000 years, and the only reason why it is so damaged today is NOT weathering or weakness in the columns, but because of war.
"In 1687, the Parthenon was extensively damaged in the greatest catastrophe to befall it in its long history.[98] As part of the Morean War (1684–1699), the Venetians sent an expedition led by Francesco Morosini to attack Athens and capture the Acropolis. The Ottoman Turks fortified the Acropolis and used the Parthenon as a gunpowder magazine – despite having been forewarned of the dangers of this use by the 1656 explosion that severely damaged the Propylaea – and as a shelter for members of the local Turkish community.[120]
On 26 September a Venetian mortar round, fired from the Hill of Philopappos, blew up the magazine.[121] The explosion blew out the building's central portion and caused the cella's walls to crumble into rubble.[116] According to Greek architect and archaeologist Kornilia Chatziaslani:[96]
...three of the sanctuary's four walls nearly collapsed and three-fifths of the sculptures from the frieze fell. Nothing of the roof apparently remained in place. Six columns from the south side fell, eight from the north, as well as whatever remained from the eastern porch, except for one column. The columns brought down with them the enormous marble architraves, triglyphs, and metopes." "

Date: 2022-08-01 02:58 am (UTC)I hope the contractor can get plenty of inside work done when he arrives, and that August proves to be fruitful in terms of hometime.
What kind of bedroom are you planning? That is - what do you want it to look like?

Date: 2022-08-01 04:26 am (UTC)No closet will leave it nice and open feeling. Any future owners can add a closet very easily, or a stand alone wardrobe.
I am not a huge decor person, and it is meant eventually as a guest room, so it will likely have a fairly neutral color scheme. Any "jazz" can be added with curtains or a fun bed spread.

Date: 2022-08-01 06:03 am (UTC)I am in admiration of people who can build walk-in dressing rooms and the like. I am also in admiration of people who don't have closets crammed with junk.
There's an armoire here that I had built for the sous chef when he was tiny and earning was easy. He still uses it, because his room is too small for it. The original idea was that it would start out as a clothing/changing armoire and then evolve into a computer station. The evolvement didn't happen, as there are very few closets in the palais.

Date: 2022-08-01 10:18 pm (UTC)A single clothing rod is not hard to install across the closet, and one can buy shoe racks, or just remove all of the rubber coated wire crap and put a dresser in there, a tall one.
It wouldn't even be that hard just to install simple shelves across the whole width of the closet, or a few at the bottom.
You could put one of those shelves that have tubs in them in there, without needing to install anything. Or put a book shelf in there and use it to store folded clothes.
So many options!
