Aug. 6th, 2022 12:16 amToday I am grateful for:
Another cooler day. It did rain again, so everything is wet.
The farrier cancelled again, and I'm not terribly pleased. I do like her a lot, and it isn't easy to get someone to come out to only do my little group, but I need them done now.
I went to see River. R mentioned that one of his eyes was very irritated, likely from flies. I saw it, and decided to call the vet. Of course, by then it was after hours, but oh well.
The vet came, and made sure no damage was done to the cornea from rubbing, or that there might have been a foreign body after all. It was determined that his irritation likely is only from flies, but we need an ointment to help with the inflammation or he will keep rubbing it.
The vet says that this was the fifth case of exactly the same irritation she saw just today. There must be some great surge in a particular fly this week.
R is lending me a fly mask until I buy one. Normally I wouldn't bother with one, especially since he is out in the trees, but if they are this bad right now, then we will use one. R is also willing to apply the ointment since I can't come to the barn three times a day.
It took up several hours, two waiting for the vet, another one by the time we were done and I got home again. More or less my whole day, or at least the part that could be productive. I just have to recognize that helping River IS productive.
I am grateful that he did not have any damage, other than irritation.
My Sweetie was having another good day connecting with family. They are all gathering in hotels in one area for the night, the wedding is tomorrow.
I learned that Shel Silverstein wrote the song "A Boy Named Sue." Johnny Cash's version is a cover.
