Aug. 15th, 2022 02:23 amToday I am grateful for:
A fairly hot, sunny day.
The contractor didn't come today. He is going to try and come tomorrow morning and talk to my husband about windows, still. Shrug.
My Sweetie and I got the linoleum installed in the mud room! It for sure required both of us to do it, and it took longer than an hour, but not awful.
The room is not finished, but it is one step closer.
He did a good job of measuring where it needed to be cut; it fit into place like a jigsaw piece.
I went to see River, and that was nice.
I worked with him in the outdoor arena. He did well at our Liberty work on the ground, and okay with just the neck rope (bareback today), but he didn't want to make a nice turn at the trot to make circles. Not sure what that is about.
He approved of the rubber grooming mitt with nubbies on it.
I talked for a while with another boarder, who lately seems to be around a lot when I am at the barn.
I came home and we watched "Pig" with Nicolas Cage in it. A very different movie for him, and very good and interesting, but with kind of an unsatisfying ending.
I find it strange how chefs seem to have achieved some kind of weird mystical status in film, like they are transcendental philosophers, and then I don't understand why they bother at all cooking food.
I learned that the South Australia Police used to have a mounted camel unit as there was no other effective way to patrol the vast central deserts. The last mounted camels were retired in 1951.

Camels are not native to Australia, and are mostly feral now and considered a nuisance.
Semi-related, and excellent book now movie about a woman trekking across the Australian Outback with camels she trained herself is "Tracks" by Robyn Davidson. National Geographic did a story and a documentary film about her as well.

Date: 2022-08-16 05:19 am (UTC)I guess I just don't understand why my husband didn't get help earlier, so we had more time.
The fact that he is now talking to this particular contractor is only happening because I insisted we hire someone to do the stairs to the basement earlier this summer.
That he spoke again with the contractor this weekend is only because I insisted on arranging another meeting, since my husband was still unsure of how to proceed.
My husband was still talking about not having enough information, so it was ME who said "well, talk to John again until you have what you need to feel sure". So, John stopped by today, and now my husband feels more confident.
What on Earth is so hard about talking to a seasoned pro when you aren't sure of how to proceed? Just doing nothing and pretending that you are working it out on your own doesn't get anything done.
I too, am very glad that the linoleum is installed. I am thinking I can get a small freezer delivered now. I couldn't get one until the floor was in.

Date: 2022-08-16 05:46 am (UTC)In the palais, I'm told that the damaged or worn-out porch planks are ready to be replaced. I don't understand why "ready to be replaced" is said. If they are worn out or rotted, they are long past the state of readiness. Replace them!
A roll of paintable wallpaper arrived today, and tomorrow I'll see about using it on the drywall "bump-out" that hides a SpacePak duct. The bump-out was badly finished long before we arrived here. The wallpaper should be able to cover its sins. I can cover the outer edge with a corner moulding.
I also noticed a hoardy box in the so-called craft room when I was looking for primer. The hoardy box is full of styrofoam pieces, a broken strand of old Christmas lights, and an old, discarded shower curtain liner. There was a time when I might have asked about it or tried to salvage the lights - not any more. I dismantled the contents and will take bags of the hooey away, day by day.

That hoardy box sounds ripe for hucking.
