Aug. 27th, 2022 12:38 amToday I am grateful for:
More getting done in the basement. It is still reinforcing the floor, lots of added joists and supports.
I asked my husband if he knew it needed that much work before we hired the contractor (who wasn't even supposed to be working on the floor, but he noticed the areas that needed work, and now he is doing this too). He said yes, and it was something he planned to do..... . Well, the contractor has already spent a few days on that, which would have translated into at least two or three sets of days off in "husband days". So, at least a month or so for my husband to do this.
Then they had to move around some of the electrical wires that were in the way of the work that they were doing with the joists and supports. My husband replaced some altogether (yes, he knows what he is doing).
So here's the thing; BECAUSE there was a contractor that we are paying showing up at 9am, and working a full day, my husband got up too, and also worked a full day with that contractor. That is something he would never do on his own. That's been the problem, is that the commitment hasn't been there. I have said a few times that we could get a lot done if my husband dedicated two full days to working on the house, leaving two days to do other things.
Anyhow.
Very hot again. I still had to do things.
I had frozen some raspberries a few days ago by putting them on cookie sheets so that they wouldn't freeze as one giant lump. Today I put them into freezer bags, then washed some I had recently picked and put THEM on trays to freeze.
Then I went to the garden and picked a few more raspberries. They are nearing the end for this year.
Then I picked another three gallon pail mostly full of beans, that I will likely still snap and bag before I go to sleep tonight.
I went to see River, and he was okay. Tired, but okay. There is very little left in the pasture for grass, and R says she is moving them on Monday. I personally feel that they should be moved now.
I let River graze for a while before we worked, and again afterwards, and I felt bad putting him into his dusty, barren pasture to pick for what's left.
Otherwise, we did well today. Good work on the ground, at Liberty, and riding with the neck rope. I am now working on getting some lateral movement with just the neck rope, like turning on the haunches and side pass. Baby steps. He was listening well to my legs to stay on a circle today, and turn.
I came home, and brought the animals back in from the pastures (I had asked my Sweetie to turn them out for a while), and turned off the water on the garden (also Sweetie started watering)
I made some food while he finished his bath, and we watched the first episode of "Picard".
Today I learned that Julia Child worked for the OSS (Office of Strategic Services) that later became the CIA.

Date: 2022-08-29 08:25 am (UTC)It is SO EASY to just "have an easy set of days off" in the winter, but there is still so much that needs to be done.

Date: 2022-08-29 08:51 pm (UTC)I would have liked to have spent the summer with the whole sunroom redone, finito benito, but most of it was completed and that's something. The rest is now going to be easier.
