Sep. 7th, 2022 12:41 amToday I am grateful for:
Sunny and a little cool. Nice weather.
Things are going well with the contractors. I caught up with them today on the progress, and what is up for tomorrow (spray insulation, so I am putting the cats into the sun room to maximize ventilation).
I spent some time picking manure in the pony pen. Lots of manure.
I went to see River, and his leg looks good. No swelling today.
He was kind of jittery when I did my ground work, not wanting to stand still and trying way too hard to anticipate, and resulting in him not really listening to me but just all over the place.
Turns out R and him have been having it out with the need for her to give him antibiotics. He is not good with taking anything orally, whether it is wormer or whatever. He throws up his head to avoid it, and will sometimes rear up.
Well, I guess he did that out in the pasture when R tried to go out there to treat him, and she really made him work hard etc. because of his reaction.
So, now he is all worried about everything because he got reprimanded. Sigh.
R wants to do several sessions with him at some point to work through this reaction. He does this also with trailering. It is an issue, and it tires me to think of what this will entail for stress and work when we do get time to address it.
The whole thing makes me feel drained emotionally. I've just had too much on my plate for far too long.
Today I learned about the Grasshopper Mouse of the Sonoran Desert. This mouse is a meat-eating predator that is immune to scorpion venom, and howls like a tiny wolf to protect it's territory.
