Sep. 10th, 2022 11:38 pmToday I am grateful for:
Very pleasant temperature outside. A little smokey again, which made for an incredible orange full moon when it came up in the evening.
The contractors were here, but not for a full day. They were mainly here to install a door on the guest bedroom so that my husband's nephew would have an enclosed space. The walls are rough, the floor too, but there is drywall ON the walls, a working outlet, and a door. Good enough. My husband borrowed an air mattress so we didn't have to haul the spare bed out of the farthest recesses of the sea can.
I finally got to talk with my sister E, who has been busy all week. She was visiting Mom, and the family in that area. I'm glad she did that, she is prone to not making the effort, and she only lives three hours away from them all.
To be fair, the rest of the family is prone to not visiting her either, because she is three hours away, and they all tend to ignore anyone outside the home area.
She spent the night with Sister L, whose husband passed last year, and had good visits with everyone in the area.
I saw some pictures of Mom on our family Facebook page (a closed group), and it was so nice. One of my nephews and his wife brought their kids to see Mom, and the girl who is now almost three, was "pushing" Mom's chair. The kids looked comfortable with Mom, which is great. So many times little kids don't see their older relatives much, so when they do go, they aren't comfortable. These kids looked very happy with her.
I was glad to see that Mom was wearing a pair of shoes that I brought her from her house. I wasn't sure if she would wear them, (her feet swell up) but they were the last pair I bought her that I remember her being willing to wear. They are good and grippy, and they are kind of all made of a soft material that stretches. They were easy to put on.
When we were clearing out her house, it made me sad that we were going to donate (I hope that's what happened to them) many pairs of almost new shoes that we kept buying her, but she couldn't wear for long without them bothering her. I took that one pair to her, hoping they would still be comfortable.
I took the recycling out to the shed and sorted it (makes it easier to take to the depot later), and I mowed a huge part of the yard.
Today was a good day to mow because I walked around to check for little frogs, and there were fewer in the grass than usual. Maybe because it was dry, and getting colder at night. They might go to the water when it's dry.
Then I took some of the packed sawdust bedding out of the goat/pony shed. I let the bedding build up on purpose, to keep the level of the floor higher than the ground since it has been so wet. I need to bring it down a bit now, in anticipation of adding bedding through the winter.
I talked to my husband, and today was the first leg of the bike ride, to raise money for M.S. It was 35 km long. He said it went well, and my nephew did okay, as did the other members of the team (they formed a team made up of people from his work place).
I came inside and had SUCH a nice nap with Celeste. She is a truly snuggly kitty. She curled up against my stomach and made biscuits until she fell asleep with her head in my hand.
I learned that all kinds of coastal creatures such as crabs and barnacles are spreading all over the place because they can cling to clumps of plastic waste that form rafts, and float around the ocean.

I love that naps are just a part of your day. You work so hard but wisely rest too... and enjoy both!

Date: 2022-09-13 08:29 am (UTC)I love a good nap, and I wish I could work one in every day. I like getting things done, but my personal mentality is generally get the important things done, and if you get that done, isn't that good enough? Most of the time I have a few goals for the day, and if I get them out of the way and I feel like it, then a nap is definitely on the menu.
That was one thing about the two winters during Covid. I wasn't going anywhere or doing anything, so I sure did get good sleep. I think I napped nearly every day. I kind of miss that aspect of it.

Date: 2022-09-13 08:25 am (UTC)He's been doing this ride for M.S. for years now. Partly he does it because it is just a great location and trail, and it gives him context to find a bunch of people from work to join him (he loves doing team things).
The fact that it is for a good cause kind of is the icing on the cake. Everyone on the team tends to train for it all summer (it is pretty grueling), and the whole thing becomes a point of pride.
