Sep. 21st, 2022 12:15 amToday I am grateful for:
Pleasant weather. Sunny and a little cool, but I could still get away with just a t-shirt.
Shorter chat by design with the contractors, and things are progressing well. They were putting up drywall in the area that will be the downstairs lounge, for a lack of better word for it. You know, the area where you can really slob out and no one will see it.
I had a decent conversation with Trainwreck, and she seemed to be in a good mood. The last few calls have been good, and I don't know if for some reason her situation is a little better? She said one of her sons came to visit, so maybe that helped her mood.
She did mention though, that our Uncle M fell, and it was not clear if he was in the hospital for observation from that, or because he has Covid. One way or the other, he is in isolation for a while because of the Covid. There are people checking on our Aunt E, who is elderly and would otherwise be alone this week until he can come home.
I talked to Mom for a while, and she seemed cheerful and lucid.
I went to see River, and most of the rocks and bracelets were back. So, I was a little disappointed that they hadn't ALL sold. R took them with her to something she was teaching at another barn and brought them out again today. She said that some of the rocks sold, as did a bracelet. So, not entirely disappointing.
My session with River was okay. Still not halting quietly. I think we've been doing so much work to get him to trot from a halt that he's anticipating the trot cue. I am still giving him lots of rewards for halting, and using the rail to help him stay still.
Then we did the outdoor obstacle course mounted, which is working okay. He is getting better at turning on his haunches and backing through an L shape, and side passing over a pole. I am praising him for increments.
I came home and primed the cold room downstairs. This will be a place to store potatoes and carrots and likely also kind of a pantry for canning stuff. I think I got a little gassed from the paint, even though I ran a fan the whole time.
Today I learned about Devon Island, in Nunavut, Canada. It is the largest known uninhabited island, near Greenland, and has almost no vegetation. It is used to simulate Mars, and there is a "space station" built there to mimic one that might work on the surface of Mars, and to test machinery.
