Sep. 23rd, 2022 11:18 pmToday I am grateful for:
More of that gorgeous autumn weather. The trees look amazing.
My Sweetie was up this morning (not I, as I am sure you've gathered) and went to town to pick up the siding for the house that just came in, and some other materials.
He talked to the contractor about things, so that they could be on the same page.
The windows should be here very soon, and while that part will likely be quite disruptive, I look forward to having them.
The siding will go up once the windows are installed.
We picked up Hollywood's medication on our way to the barn.
We went to see River, and at least nothing felt horribly awkward today.
River did get another cut on a hind leg, but this one isn't too bad. I am wondering what on earth he keeps cutting himself on.
The footing in the outdoor arena is already a lot better. With everyone riding on it, it is packing down. Still deep, but better.
So. I did do an affirmation with River today. That I would take care of him. If anything changes at the barn, he can always come home. That I will do my best with him, and for him. It's not the affirmation that R was thinking of (one based on his recent health issues), but it's the one I think he needs to hear, and the one that helps me to remember what is important.
I really worked on keeping my own energy very low while we worked on halts, even when I corrected him for moving. Very low key. I felt like he did better, though he shifted around again when I asked for a trot from the halt a few times. Anticipation.
I did a small amount of lateral work on the ground (I have been leaving it for a while, because of the shifting around in the halt) and he did well with that.
I rode him with just the neck rope, and he did really well. He is making nicer circles and giving from my leg a lot better.
I managed not to be in the barn with any of K's lessons, so there's that.
We came home and let everyone out for a while.
We got some old baseboard out of the garage that can be cleaned up and used in the cold room downstairs.
We walked around the horse pasture, on the nice mowed path through the trees.
My Sweetie was talking to his sister today, and they got talking about the nephew's trip here to visit us. Apparently he told his Mom that the trip was "life changing", and I am dying to know what was so remarkable about it. Unless he was joking. Just being around animals so much? Doing a bit of manual labor? The bike ride with my husband? That we talked to him like an adult?
Today I learned that "The "world's funniest joke" is a term used by Richard Wiseman of the University of Hertfordshire in 2002 to summarize one of the results of his research. For his experiment, named LaughLab, he created a website where people could rate and submit jokes.[1] Purposes of the research included discovering the joke that had the widest appeal and understanding among different cultures, demographics and countries.[citation needed]"
This is the joke: Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps, "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator says, "Calm down. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence; then a gun shot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says, "OK, now what?"[4]
What's also funny, is that I have been telling that joke for YEARS, and I thought it was hilarious too.
Would you say that is the funniest joke you know? You have one to share?

Date: 2022-09-26 08:54 am (UTC)I think the one you shared could increase in value depending on how it's told and like with may jokes, the comedic timing of it.
Nope, my brain is done for today, can't remember any jokes!!! Sorry :)

Date: 2022-09-27 06:06 am (UTC)The joke that used to be my favourite isn't even relevant anymore.
Q: What's the difference between Prince Charles, a monkey's mother, and a bald man?
A) One is an heir apparent, another is a hairy parent, and the other has no hair apparent.
