Sep. 25th, 2022 01:34 amToday am grateful for:
More gorgeous weather.
I put a second coat of paint on the cold room last night, and first coat of paint on the baseboards.
Today we went to the city, this is kind of also "my birthday" a bit.
On the way to the city, we went to look at some horse blankets that should fit River. They were a really good price, and in good condition.
Then we went to the animal supply store and found some special leg wraps meant to spread out pressure that I intend to use as neck pads for Hollywood's blankets this winter. She ended up getting a pressure sore on her withers last winter.
Then we looked at tiles for the bathroom. We don't need many, so we can splurge a little on fancier tiles. We did see something we liked, and wrote it down. We'll look around a bit more. Good start, though.
Then we went to the bead store, and I found some nice ones. Some that are perfect as a spring/summer look.
We ate at a nice vegan place that we were at one other time, and the food is really good. We kind of shared entrees, I got a curried chickpea dish and my husband got these battered/fried oyster and lion's mane mushrooms meant to be a bit like battered fish. They weren't fishy, but they have a substantial texture, and the batter was light and very crisp. They were very good.
Then we went for a walk, first around the Legislature grounds, which had a surprising amount of flowering plants for this time of year. It was lovely. Then we walked around a very old neighborhood, which I love. There are a few old parts of town with old houses, nice yards, and big trees, and sidewalks. To me, this is what a neighborhood should look like (even if the houses are newer). The new developments leave me cold.
We came home and watched two episodes of "Reacher", and they were good. They do apparently follow the actual books, and the author is part of the process of making the show.
I learned that men were sent covertly to assess the beaches of Normandy before D-Day was deemed feasible. They needed to assess the beach to see if it was going to support the weight of the tanks, if it would be possible to get the troop carriers close enough to shore, and how steep it was, and so on.
