Today I am grateful for:

Ongoing glorious weather.

Short and positive check in with John, the contractor.

I took the time to try and find out something about the door we were looking at. It is looking less and less like we will be able to get it and install it this year. There is a 16 week wait time for it.

I went to see River, and that went well. I managed to avoid being around anyone else in the barn, and thus not provoking any conflict.

I worked with River on the obstacles, and that went well, even at liberty. I think I am right about River preferring to come towards me when he turns on his hindquarters than me moving him away from me.

He seems comfortable in the halts again. I am so relieved.

Then I rode for a while with just the neck rope, and he did well with that, even though right next to the outdoor arena the neighbor was using machinery to move a brush pile or something, and had a big fire going.

We even cantered a bit.

I came home and worked on trying to fix his fly sheet. That whole thing got torn to absolute crap this summer, but I managed to piece it together. They are made of a light mesh material, and super flimsy. That doesn't stop them from being expensive enough that I don't want to buy a new one every year.

I did that while watching "Man of Steel", the Superman movie origin story with Henry Cavill. He is ridiculously good-looking. It doesn't even make sense that we are the same species as Henry.

Today I learned that Charles Darwin spent 6 months in South America looking for a lesser rhea (an ostrich-like bird) only to have one served to him for dinner. Halfway through the meal, Darwin realized what he was eating, gathered the parts and sent them to England for taxidermy and formal classification.

My favorite Henry Cavill movie is and probably will remain, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. It's a shame it didn't do better in theaters.

I love it so much, the casting was excellent and the script great.

I've heard about the Witcher, but probably more sex and nudity than I want to roll my eyes and fastforward past (granted after two life drawing classes plain nudity is more of a shrug and whatever).
