Oct. 8th, 2022 02:22 amToday I am grateful for:
Beautiful weather.
Our windows got delivered! A week later than the original delivery date, but a week earlier than the revised delivery date.
This is likely very helpful. If our contractor can get started on installing windows on Monday, the weather might hold out and make it easier for him.
Also, this past week we were getting he and his wife to continue working in the basement, but it is sort of keeping them engaged so they will be available for windows. It is kind of extra work. The windows is our big goal.
Part of me is sad about replacing the original wood frame windows. They are lovely, and still in remarkably good condition. Sadly, they are not great for our winters, we lose a lot of heat and money because of them, and the house is a lot warmer in the summer too. We are going to do our best to keep the beautiful interior window frames.
My Sweetie raked up some leaves that have piled on the back concrete pad.
We put away one or two more things lying around.
We sat down and made a decision about replacing our small chest freezer. We have had it a long time, and the lid is very damaged and not sealing any more. The inside frosts up a lot and you can't get at half of the food in it.
We ordered one very similar in size to what we have, and it will go in the mud room. This will be kind of nice, because the last couple of years it has been outside, meaning any time you want something you need to go outside to get it. Not horrible, but a bit annoying.
We stopping in at a fairly new local brewery that makes mead (from honey and some fruit). We got to sip a few of the varieties, and it is very similar to wine, but the flavor of honey is apparent.
We bought one bottle for ourselves, one as a gift, and one to donate to the gift basket that R is putting together for the paint night we are doing as a fund raiser for the horse rescue that R is affiliated with (I think they will do a draw for it?).
We went to see River, and that was nice.
I worked a bit more on the obstacles, because I am now trying to get him to pick up the pace and be a little more responsive, now that he understands the movements well.
He could also be totally bored with them, but I am hoping to teach him that each obstacle that he does once well and responsively, then we're done.
I rode him with the saddle and the neck rope, and he did well with that, and our circles are improving and getting more uniform.
I spent just a few minutes going through another quick pattern at Liberty, where he stayed at my shoulder, and he did well with that so we did it once, and good enough for today.
My overall goal is to try to not overdo the training, to where he gets bored or feels like he's being punished. I do my best to reward his efforts, even if they aren't perfect, and give him lots of breaks.
Interactions with R and her husband were pleasant.
We came home and let everyone out for a while, and we started digging potatoes. Not a very heavy yield this year, but that's okay. They're mostly for my husband, and he barely seems to bother eating them.
It is a little disappointing from the perspective of putting all that effort in for not much return.
We came in and watched the newest "Dr.Strange". The effects were good, but after a while the plot was a bit baffling. Okay.
I messed around with pouring acrylic paint on canvas. I don't have the right stuff to get the cool effects, but it was still kind of fun.
I learned that a 2017 study found that the introduction of iodized salt in 1924 raised the IQ for the one-quarter of the population most deficient in iodine.
I did know that iodine was added to table salt because iodine deficiency was a huge problem in many parts of North America.
