Oct. 19th, 2022 12:24 amToday I am grateful for:
More gorgeous weather.
The contractors got the remaining windows in the sun room installed. They still need spray insulation, which is kind of annoying because that room is greatly disrupted right now (I had to move pretty much everything besides the turtle tank out of it so they could maneuver) and I would like to be able to put everything back.
They are not coming tomorrow, as they are still dealing with a tree stump interfering with their septic system, and have someone with a very large backhoe coming tomorrow to try and prise it from the ground.
I went to see River, and that was very soothing. It was such a beautiful evening, and for now, not much for pressing goals.
I did work on our ground work, in a very concise manner. If he did well, we moved on. Things that used to be our homework are now our warm up.
Then we rode again, with just the neck rope. November is usually "stirrup free month" for many riding barns, meant to be a riding challenge that develops the seat. Maybe I'll ride bareback for most of it. My seat IS a lot stronger for doing so.
I know that if he were quite distracted, the neck rope would likely not be enough to cope, but for the average day, it is doing well for communication. That, and my seat, I guess. I am quite amazed that we have been able to do this together, and often he seems very relaxed doing so.
In general, he seems much more relaxed since we stopped using a bit. I think it was a good choice.
R leaves in the wee hours on Thursday for a big horsemanship summit in the States, and it is pretty exciting. She'll likely come back with some pretty interesting things to try.
I came home and didn't do much. I did have a lovely nap again, complete with kitty snuggles.
Today I learned that TGI Fridays stopped requiring employees to wear flair after "Office Space" came out and customers began making jokes about the flair.

Date: 2022-11-01 05:32 am (UTC)I did a lot of work with his bridle on at first, with the reins in reach if I needed them, and focused a lot on getting my legs and seat more accurate until I felt like we were communicating well. I used less and less rein for the halt until it was all seat.
At the end of the day, it is a lot like neck reining.
