Happy Halloween!

Today I am grateful for:

Not feeling let down too much, over how little I generally get to participate in holidays. We don't get trick or treaters out here in the boonies, nor do I get a chance to participate in anything fun for adults very often. So, just acknowledging that somewhere out there, people were having fun.

I slept about an hour and a half later than I normally do, which felt awful to me because I already get up so late in the day. I probably really needed the sleep, but it is already hard to keep my days on track.

I managed to not be too bad for time to meet with a person who sold me a winter blanket that should work for the mares at home. It was pretty much new.

I've bought several used blankets for this year now, and hopefully that will see us through in good shape. If I am going to bother blanketing at all (and it seems appropriate now for my two senior mares especially) than I like to have ENOUGH.

You always seem to run into having a blanket get damaged, and you need to fix it, so that means you have to have a back up blanket. If the horses get soaked, like it was wet, sloppy snow, then you end up needing to trade out the blankets. So, you need multiple blankets for each horse.

Anyhow, the person I met up with, turns out to know several people that I used to ride with at the previous barn. A lot of people left that barn at about the same time, as the negative issues with that barn owner became impossible to tolerate. We kind of went our various ways to different barns.

This young woman is affiliated with a barn where several people I know ended up at.

So we had lots to talk about.

After that, I checked the pottery studio, and no one else was there. I'm sure they all had Halloween plans. I decided not to go tonight, because I thought it might be just as good to get my shopping done and go home early.

I went to the dollar store to pick up a few more inexpensive canvases, since R seems to think a fair number of people are coming.

Then I went to Winner's hoping to find some sweat pants, so I had "nicer" ones. I found some.

Then I went for groceries, and I am very grateful for being able to do so. This was a bigger haul, and I am glad I had the time to do it without feeling rushed.

I had a very fun interaction with the checkout clerk, who basically just wore a fake mustache and called that her Halloween costume.

We joked about how she could just wear that mustache over and over, and just keep saying it was a different costume. She could be Mario, or "random dude" or also wear it with a false pregnancy belly and say she is a pregnant woman pretending to be a dude. It got very silly.

I came home and put all the groceries away, and noodled around on the computer for a while.

Today I learned that the present day Crab Nebula is the remnants of a supernova that was observed in 1054 A.D. The event was recorded in several different cultures.

SN 1054 is a supernova that was first observed on c. 4 July 1054, and remained visible until c. 6 April 1056.[2]α

It is one of the most studied and culturally well-known supernovas.

Update: ended up spending about two hours moving things around for tomorrow.

The contractors will need access to the window in the bathroom, and the window in the bedroom. Our bedroom is pretty small, so all I can really do is move the bed over about six inches, but to do that I needed to put a bunch of shoes away (which is fine, they were summer shoes) put away a stack of books, then sweep where the bed was (dust bunnies from hell) and take the curtains down.

For the bathroom, I moved all the plants away from the window, but because they will be working directly over the toilet, I cleaned that and the floor around it very well. I also cleaned off the sink.

Then I put the Styrofoam inserts into the windows. They put those in so there is something in the window keeping out the cold while they pull out the old window, then put the new one in. Once the new one is in place, roughly, they have one of them come inside to measure, and center it up. Then they shim it into place and secure it properly.

I also ended up folding a bunch of laundry, doing new laundry (because there was a build up in the bedroom).

Because I am like this, it led to me organizing my free-standing wardrobe and re-folding all the clothes in there.

THEN I needed to organize things in the living room, because I need to sleep on the couch in there tonight, and OF COURSE there was stuff stacked up on the couch from moving things away from the windows in the living room.

No, it isn't cleaner or better organized really. It's all just moving things around so people can get to the windows. At some point, I will have to move it all back again.

Life is nuts, at times.

Sigh. Your story is the reason I keep putting off trying to purge my closets. Once I start, it'll be a free-for-all.

I have to say I LOVE that you put the links to your factoids in your post. I always read them!

Yay for bumping into someone with mutually lots to talk about, an extra large haul and time for groceries, enough blankets for your animals, and fun interaction.

Yikes about the update - that sounds like several days work! I'm glad you got it all done though and I hope you are super proud of yourself!!!! That was NOT a small task so applause!

Hallowe'en was spooky and rainy. In spite of that, the costumed revellers came by in polite droves, asking for candy. "That is very kind of you. Thank you very much, and Happy Hallowe'en!"
