Nov. 23rd, 2022 12:15 amToday I am grateful for:
Continued warm weather. The snow has been melting a bit.
I got up and right away tackled the most pressing task; the dishes.
I could really get used to these good nights of sleep, now that there is no one here banging away like mad first thing in the morning. I will miss the daily progress on the house.
I connected with a local person on Buy and Sell, to pick up several pristine plastic totes she was selling for very cheap. I want to replace some of the old ones I pulled out of the sea can that had crappy/broken lids.
Then I went to see River. I didn't have a ton of time before K's lesson (with two people, so I can't be in the arena. No room.). I didn't have time for much of a warm up or anything, but first I had to put away a bunch of things that were left out from the last person's lesson (poles, a jump) so that I could set up the pylons etc. that I want to use in my own freestyle pattern.
Then we tried one last time to see if the element I wanted to use, which was to shoulder yield over a big ball (which is cool, because it also means your horse is not afraid of having a big ball under his stomach), but there is just no way to make it work consistently. He ends up hitting it with a leg and it shoots away almost every time. He is willing to go over it, but very hard not to bump it.
So, we are just doing a shoulder yield, which he has at least gotten more consistent with doing.
I went through the revised pattern once with the music, it went very well, and I left it there. I did not want to burn him out by over practicing.
I talked with one of the people (the mom) in the lesson coming after me, and K seemed to be slightly less whacked out and protective of them. Maybe now that they are competent to groom and tack up on their own and talking isn't too much of a distraction.
This is the woman who hit a deer last week, so we talked about that. It is taking a while to settle the claim for the damage to her car.
I came home and didn't do a lot for a while. I talked with my Sweetie who convinced a co-worker to try the disc sled after work for a few tries, and it was fun.
I had a nap.
Then I got up, messed around a bit with acrylic pouring, and put in a load of laundry.
I learned that lobsters don’t die of old age due to an enzyme called ‘telomerase’ that increases the number of divisions their cells can make, allowing them to repair their bodies and live extraordinarily long lives.
Knowing that, doesn't it suck even more that we harvest them like mad for food, given that they could live for a hundred more years if we left them alone?

You could maybe keep one as a pet.
