Today I am grateful for:

Lovely weather again.

Lots of sleep.

I vacuumed the rug in the living room, and got a full cup. It is not a huge rug, and it blows my mind how much crap comes out of it. Like, two cups of crud. That is disgusting.

I went to see River, and today we recorded our pattern for "No-Stirrups November". We did a little warm up, and then did our pattern, which R recorded for us.

It went smoothly, and I felt like we did well enough on our first attempt to leave it at that. I doubt we could have improved it by repeated attempts.

I watched the playback, and it looked good. I will try to put a link to that video here in a few days.

I am really glad it was done without a lot of fuss. I get flustered trying to do multiple takes.

Well, there you go. Last year at this time I would not have imagined that I would be able to ride a pattern like that bareback with only a neck rope, and to be that smooth together.

With the rest of our lesson time, we did a bit of ground driving, in possible preparation for skjoring somewhere down the line, or maybe trying to drive River with a cart next summer.

We also have homework; a different type of in-hand shoulder yield where he is mirroring my steps.

I came home, had a short nap.

Then I got up and tackled this year's mountain of paperwork. Since our filing cabinet has been in the sea can, and only recently came back into the house, we were putting all our papers into a big basket. At the end of every year I normally do go through it all, and toss anything no longer relevant and make sure everything is filed properly.

I had to then go through the filing cabinet, and toss all the no longer relevant papers to make room for the ones that we are keeping (many of which will be tossed next year).

I ended up with a giant mass of papers to be burned or something (you aren't supposed to take bank documents to be recycled unless they are shredded first).

A pretty big job, and good to get it out of the way.

I learned that Orville Wright lived until 1948. Long enough to see airplanes used in battle, commercial flights, and the first supersonic jet flight in 1978.
