Today I am grateful for:

Still decent weather. We are supposed to have a few cold days soon, so I am glad today was still nice.

I was able to get to town to take Fatty to the vet. We were a late because of a train that was literally not even moving for about ten minutes, blocking the highway, but it worked out.

I am grateful that the vets stayed late finishing up the blood work for Fatty so we could at least go home with some medication and some direction for now.

It did not seem that he had any infection, but the blood work showed issues with his liver. This is maybe from the long-term use of steroids that he has been on for over two years now for his pancreas.

I can only do what I can, and give him the drugs we were given, (and reduced steroids for now), and try to get him eating. We have an appointment to check his blood again in two weeks, but of course a lot can happen in two weeks.

While I was waiting for the meds at the vet clinic, the director of the cat rescue (which is literally just down the street from the vet clinic. They work together a lot) was there to pick up a cat, and we chatted a bit. We talked about spay and neuter and so on, and she seemed a little bit like she was "educating" me about the issues.

She was preaching to the choir, but I guess she assumes that everyone needs to be educated on issues surrounding caring for cats.

It isn't easy dealing with a sick beloved pet, and to face the possibility of losing him. It never seems to get any easier.

For now, I am just going to do what I can for him, and hope that it helps.

I picked up a tiny bit of human groceries, and more cat food (still not the normal brand).

I came home and didn't do much else. Just gave Fatty the drugs and tried to get him to eat. He ate a tiny bit of food, and I don't want to over do it because he threw up before we went to the vet today. I need him to keep the drugs down.

I checked in with my Sweetie; he's very supportive. Of course he is worried too. Today was pretty tiring for him because things at the job site kicked up a notch and he ended up spending over six hours in meetings, so he had to stay late. At least they are paying him over time. This usually happens at a certain point in the construction, when they shift from big, general structure to getting all the little things tracked down before they start testing systems. It has to be all put together, all the seals, gauges, valves, every little nut and bolt. The meetings were about who was going to be responsible for what part of things, and determining if everything "big" was done.

I learned that after being denied having his dog in his dorm at Cambridge, famous poet Lord Byron got a pet bear since there was no rule against them. They actually allowed it to stay.

Oh, that Lord Byron. What a caper!

I have four teddy bears in the sulking room, and sometimes five if I filch one from the sous chef. (I took five when down with pericarditis.)
We like bears for comfort when we are unwell. I am unsure about real one, however. I've also read Marian Engel, and there's that.
