Today I am grateful for:

Not too much really NEEDS to happen right now.

I am mostly just taking care of Fatty, and then allowing myself to do not much else.

It was pretty cold today, the car said it was -20 C. With no wind, it didn't feel too bad. The outside animals seem comfortable, so that's good.

I did go see River. We mainly did ground work/Liberty. We practiced switching sides, and moving the shoulders over with me if I step sideways, and some work again without using a whip as an arm extension.

He did well, and I didn't get cold since I kept moving. I needed to go do something for a while.

I did talk with R for a while too, and that was nice. She got a special pair of skis for skjoring (skiing behind a horse). I think it is her Christmas present to herself.

The family is commenting a lot on the family pictures I posted last night on our family page. They are filling in information about who is in the pictures and the context, since a lot of these pictures are from before I was born and there aren't any descriptions of them.

A few years ago, I did try to get Mom to talk about the older pictures and get names and such, and I did get some things written on the backs of those pictures.

I am really enjoying the stories and comments, since for some of these pictures, I never did know much about them. We might have talked about them at one time, but it has been a very long time since a group of us sat down to look at these together.

There are some pictures of our Dad, who I never knew. He died pretty much right when I was born. He was a wild and crazy guy when he married Mom, and then really swung the other way to being a church man. He apparently was a wonderful father when the kids were little, but pretty strict with the girls as they became women. You hear that a lot with these kind of men, when the girls become women they can't cope, and the old farmers just wanted to keep them under control. Many of my sisters just left home very young.

Not much to say about Fatty. I'm still doing my best to get some pureed food and water into him, and he is about the same.

I learned that a painting used as a set piece in "Stuart Little" was actually a fine work of art thought to have been lost.

One of the paintings used as set dressing for the Littles' home was Hungarian avant garde painter Róbert Berény's 1920s painting Sleeping Lady with Black Vase, which had long been considered lost. A set designer for the film had purchased the painting at an antiques store in Pasadena, California for $500 for use in the film, unaware of its significance. In 2009, art historian Gergely Barki, while watching Stuart Little on television with his daughter, noticed the painting, and after contacting the studios was able to track down its whereabouts.[7] In 2014, its owner sold the painting at an auction for €229,500.[8]

Stuart Little is a lovely book. Poignant is the best word for it.

Do keep us posted on Fatty.
