Today I am grateful for:

Warmer weather. I brought the goats back outside, and later I took the heavier blankets off of the two mares at home.

I went to see River, and I got there a little later than usual. I had to be satisfied with just working on groundwork mostly, since K had a lesson at six. The groundwork went well, at least.

K managed to fit in a little micro-aggression. I was grabbing a handful of treats for River, and the pony his student was grooming "asked" for one nicely. Since I was trying to be respectful, I asked K if I could give the pony a treat. It was not working, or engaged in anything, just standing in the cross ties being groomed. It was looking right at me, knowing I had treats, and K said no. No treats.

What did I ever do to him.

I have done my best to be out of the arena for his lessons (which was never an issue for R. She was fine with me sharing the arena as long as it was only one student), I have done my best to keep my stuff from blocking any area he is using (he complained about my grooming stuff being out in "his" space), I try not to talk to his students (though they often try to talk with me), and R said it was fine for me to be in the barn at the same time as he and his students, if I did my after-ride grooming etc. in a stall. Which I do.

Yet, every time he manages to make me feel like I am worthless and taking up his space.

I don't think it is my problem. I know it is his problem, but it affects me. R doesn't stand up for me. I can't be more out of his way than I already am, besides just not being there at all, so I don't know how to make this better. Likely if I try to talk to them at all about the situation, it will just be worse.

I came home and had a fairly brief phone conversation with Sister P, someone I don't talk to a lot since she works a lot, and pretty much if she is not working, is busy looking after one of her grand kids, or sleeping.

She seems to be doing all right. Things have been pretty rough for her this year. Her grown kids have had a lot of health stuff going on. I'll be honest, their lives are pretty much shit shows. Still, it was nice to talk to her. I'm glad they've sort of settled into a new living space.

Bill Haast has the record for surviving the most deadly snake bites at 172. Haast disliked the record because being bitten was not something to be admired for. Haast's immunity has led to his blood being used as anti-venom substitutes and saved more than 20 lives.

Bill's chosen career was running a snake farm partly as an attraction. It all sounds pretty sketchy. This guy was like the "Tiger King" of snakes.

Next time, you could give the pony a treat without asking for this guy's doinky permission.
