Dec. 19th, 2022 11:34 pmToday I am grateful for:
Taking care of things today. I am just really grateful to be able to do that, for myself and for the animals.
We were supposed to have a screen window installed (or the screen dropped off if I wasn't at home), but it seems that it didn't happen.
When I got up, I tried to find out if they were still coming, since it was so cold today. Our contractor set up the appointment, but wouldn't/couldn't give me a number to call to check. I then tried to find out by contacting the business that sold us the windows, but it was impossible to find out if anyone was coming.
The contractor seemed annoyed with me that I was trying to find out, but...why wouldn't I want to know if they were still able to come? It's not unusual for contractors to postpone work in very cold weather, and I didn't want to sit around all day waiting for them if they weren't coming.
At one point, I talked with the contractor and said that I wasn't upset at anyone, I was just wanting to know if they were still coming, because if not, I would go to town earlier to get groceries.
Then, the contractor says "why didn't you get groceries on the weekend"?
That is just straight up rude, and after a long, long pause I replied "that's enough judgement for today, don't you think?".
He wasn't even smart enough to stop right there. He went right back in there saying "I'm not judging, I just want to know why you didn't get groceries on the weekend if you knew the window guys might be at your place today".
I guess it just doesn't occur to him THAT IT IS NONE OF HIS GODDAMN BUSINESS WHY I DIDN'T GET GROCERIES ON THE WEEKEND".
Once again, he acts as if I am working for him, not the other way around. This dude is just clueless.
At about four thirty, I left anyhow. They weren't likely coming (and if they did they could just leave the screen for us to install).
I got my Christmas cards mailed, and even the clerk at the post office was trying to mess with me, trying to sell me normal stamps when I specifically asked for Christmas stamps (though they were really boring this year).
But I got it done.
Then I went to pottery, and I trimmed a bowl I threw last week, and glazed a few things that came back from being bisque fired. I talked to a woman who does a lot of the kiln firing etc. (she was bringing back some finished items). I told her about what the contractor had said, and she couldn't believe the audacity.
Nice to hear that it isn't just me who thought he was rude.
Then I went to Winners for some retail therapy, and it was nice just to be there in a store, all decorated up for the holidays. I really have barely been to town for anything other than food and animals things for a while. I got a bunch of underwear, because it occurs to me that it is one thing I CAN control, is that I can start the day with at least having some decent underwear.
I got a HUGE haul of groceries. I was out of a lot of staples, and I am also buying extra things for Christmas. Some snack type things in case we have our neighbors over, and for my Sweetie. There were a few things for a good price that I stocked up on, like quinoa.
I felt very grateful to be able to stock up on food, and to have the ability to do so.
Today I learned that as an adult, Shirley Temple became involved in politics. She ran (and almost won a seat) in Congress. The served as an ambassador to Czechoslovakia after the fall of communism, and served on the board of directors for several organizations.
