Dec. 28th, 2022 02:47 amToday I am grateful for:
For my Sweetie being home to help with chores. It wasn't horrible, but there was a strong wind, and snow. I had to put blankets back on the mares (after such a mild day yesterday that they deserved a day without them to let their skin breathe), and that can be tricky in the wind.
We went to see River, and it was cloudy enough that it was dark an hour before official sunset.
The roads were pretty crappy, and the wind/snow made it a challenge. I wouldn't likely have gone if my husband hadn't been home.
The "Sunday" rider was there today. She has some time off so she came today. It was nice to see her. R was around too, so it was nice to be social.
River was less worried about food today. R said she gave them extra today, so he wasn't as focused about the evening meal specifically.
He had much better focus today, and did well at Liberty/groundwork. I rode too, and used the bitless bridle to work with him to do the rope gate. He is not yet where I can navigate it with just the neck rope; he has this strange compulsion to go sideways or just walk through the gate and keep going instead of listening to my cues when I just use the neck rope. Like he would just rather go somewhere else instead of be near the gate, though he doesn't seem worried about it.
I felt like we ended in a good place, with him relaxed and focused.
We came home and watched "Life of Brian", kind of a holiday classic for us.
Today I learned that Nimrod was actually a mighty hunter referenced in the bible.
I grew up thinking that nimrod meant "idiot", and never knew where that word came from.
It was Looney Toons that popularized the word as an insult, generally directed at Elmer Fudd, to mock him for being such a "mighty hunter"....a virtual Nimrod.

Date: 2022-12-29 10:08 am (UTC)It was still banned in Norway until 1980.
I used the word 'nimrod' a few days ago, and I actually paused, wondering what it even meant. This Reddit thread felt well-timed.
