Really nice weather today.
We took the blankets off of the mares at home for a while today (put them back on in case of precipitation tonight) to make sure they were holding their weight and no sores. They looked good.
We snowshoed around the horse pasture for a while. Perfect snow and weather for it.
We went to see River, and that was nice. The Sunday rider was just finishing up when we got there, and we chatted for a while.
It's funny, she says she isn't a "cat person", but says she does love the barn cats, and I think all it really is, is that she didn't grow up around cats. I can't help but think that many people who say they don't like cats just haven't really given them a chance.
River did well, and stayed pretty focused. I need to be better at being concise, I think I'm making our training sessions a little too long. We did ride for a while too, and he's improving his bow.
We came home and watched "Amsterdam", which was really good.
I learned that "The largest beaver dam known to exist is in Wood Buffalo National Park in Alberta, Canada and measures 2,790 feet (850 m) in length.[8] Satellite photos provided by NASA WorldWind show the dam did not exist in 1975 but it appeared in subsequent images. It has two or more lodges and is a combination of two original dams. Google Earth images show new dams being built which could ultimately join the main dam and increase the overall length by another 50 to 100 metres (160 to 330 ft) during the next decade.[9] Coordinates: 58°16'15"N 112°15'6"W".

Date: 2023-01-17 02:47 am (UTC)We have those critters chewing up lots of trees on the edge of the lake and "up north", which means anywhere out of town.

Date: 2023-01-17 09:24 am (UTC)We have lots of beavers around here, especially at the park down the road that we frequent. They have lots of dams and lodges visible from the hiking paths. There are a couple of places where the trails are very low, and nearly under water in the spring, and one spot where there is a low bridge, and often beavers and muskrats swim right underneath it, or beside the trail. There are chewed off stumps everywhere.
I think they are amazing creatures.
