Jan. 21st, 2023 01:22 amToday I am grateful for:
More lovely weather.
That I dug in and refused to have a crappy day. I woke up at the tail end of a dream where children were chasing me, and came to the conclusion that it was a bleed over of the cats yowling for breakfast. I felt like I hadn't gotten enough sleep, but I powered through.
I went to see River, and at least for today he didn't have any new injuries. I didn't see anything, anyways.
A good session with him really improved my outlook on life, as it often does. We had just an hour of working time, which is enough. He did well on our homework from the lesson, and on our lateral yields (which I am trying to be concise in my ask, and in my release as soon as he gives a good response, and then not over do it). Then I rode with just the neck rope, and did ONE very broken down, relaxed attempt at the rope gate, which we managed to do, and then LEFT IT ALONE.
I enjoyed the new music I put on the phone. A nice change, and an easy one.
K was around, getting ready for a lesson, and he was comfortable with me. I hope this is more how things go from now on. I hope he recognizes the effort I make to be considerate of his need for space, and that he sees that I am a "safe" person. He was really stressing out for a while.
I came home and watched some interesting videos about the St.Peter's basilica, a tour kind of. What an incredible building. Yet, it also could have fed a lot of people to use the money for charitable purposes.
Then I had a nap.
I learned that the eye has something called immune privilege, meaning that it limits it's inflammatory response if there is an infection elsewhere in the body. Swelling in the eye damages vision. It is an interesting medical opportunity in terms of tissue transplants.
"The eye is one of a few areas of the body with immune privilege. The eye limits its inflammatory immune response so that vision isn’t harmed by swelling and other tissue changes. Other sites with immune privilege include the brain, testes, placenta and fetus."
